Newcastle scouts have gone away terrified of us for next Wednesday!

0 - 5 (and very lucky to get away with that scoreline)

Only 2 league games yes but results like this are very very worrying

That was dreadful. Complete lack of skill and desire. Not one decent shot on target in the entire game.

No leadership on the park, until it was to late, AW as captain surprised, as did the failure ( deliberately used) to select Sam Lavelle, the momentum & confidence was lost by half time. I'm sure DA will take responsibility and learnings . But it was team that didn't impact in any sector of the game

Looking forward to Dereks interview , can’t use any of of the old Bentlyisms . He seems to have dismantled a descent team for this fixture . Surely not focusing on the helpless task on Wednesday against Newcastle

Questionable team selection. Is Sam Lavelle moving to another club or is he injured? No other explanation as he has been our outstanding player for several seasons. Other issue is can the young keeper justify his place in League 2?

I confidently predicted a two nil shut out but that was before I was made aware of the team selection and that Cambridge had Wes Hoolahan on their books, along with a something to prove Paul Mullin upfront, still, I wasn't prepared for that showing, hopefully just a minor blip.

After disposing of Oldham so comfortably the other night, Derek could have been forgiven for trying to rest players, ready for yet another midweek cup game, although I don't get leaving the Captain out but the truth is, his troops looked battle weary from the off and against a more clinical side they were found out and paid a heavy price,

Yes, cup games bring in much needed funds but can be a massive distraction from the bread and butter of the League, I bet Cambridge will be as fresh as daisies next Saturday, the complete opposite can be said here, after what's going to be an energy sapping, ever greater battle all over the park against the Toon, followed by a very long trip to Southend to get back ontrack.

Hope their powers of recovery are better than today's :?

remember us getting him in pre season and he was on fire, shooting on sight, and fans were raving for Jim to sign him, but then slowly stopped shooting on sight and became more defensive and then went off to Tranmere, certainly good at L2 level.

Mullers always put a shift in for us, good luck to him, we would have liked to have kept him but Tranmere came calling. Hoolahan oozes class and the rest were all at least 6ft and decent athletes. They were decent, as were Cheltenham, difference was our performance differed.
We could have scored at 0-0, McAlinden half chance then a Davis header well saved from a corner, but after they scored, they stepped up, fair play.

I couldn't see the game today unfortunately. It seems that we had a sound beating by a much better team, certainly a bump back down to earth.
It was always going to be a tough game and heads went down when we went behind. It will be a good learning curve for players and the manager. We know that there is more and better to come from this squad and they will bounce back. COME ON YOU MORECAMBE REDS.

Unless I'm missing something more recent (we've lost 5-1 at home to Doncaster and Yeovil respectively) our worst home league defeat for nearly 39 years.... 21/09/1981 Morecambe 0-9 Bangor City at Christie Park in front of 160 fans.

Badge of honour if you were! Hope you didn't go to Workington the following week.... 7-1 defeat! Hope we do better in our next outing.

Sounds like Freez was there yesterday and 1981.... Can't be that many (un)lucky fans who can make the claim.

The last time we lost at home by exactly 5 goals was 05/04/1977: Morecambe 0-5 Barrow (323 attendance).

This is a far from ordinary start of a season and you can tell by some of the results from other matches. Stevenage putting 3 past Oldham, Cheltenham doing the same to Tranmere. Clubs have had hardly any pre season training and very few friendlies matches to get their new signings integrated and used to one another. Fitness levels will be well below where they should be and I think you are going to get shoddy performances now and again until teams get in the flow again. A bad performance yes but no need to panic.

Not the best of starts but Cambridge seem to love playing us....remember that 7-0 drubbing at there ground.....best we forget these results and accept that yesterday could be the wake up call we needed after a relatively good start to our season.

DA reckons that they are NOT the best team we've played so far...that suggests that Cheltenham are :?: :?: :?:

Oh you little ray of sunshine!

I was there too. :(

Ironic that in our centenary year, we're playing a top flight team in a competitive match for only the third time, and there will be less people there on Wednesday to see it live than watched the Morecambe v Bangor game.
