Did Newport concede in the first 5 minutes? Did everything the Toon hit after that for half n hour go in? Did Newport get a man sent off with over half the match left?
Different day, different performance. We are out, so are Newport after playing very well and defending well, Toon shooting was way off all game.
I get that we need to move on but saying that the difference between a 7-0 and a 1-1 was basically just ‘fine margins and a bit of bad luck’ doesn’t do it for me.
The goal in the first 5 minutes and the way it came about showed a Newcastle team that were fired up after a heavy defeat at home the previous Saturday, that we were there for the taking.
A quick 2nd goal and they fully relaxed, were never under pressure and played it as a pre-season friendly.
Not to excuse the fact that on the night we were embarrassingly poor.
A learning curve for DA and the team.
If you have looked at all the results in Lges 1 & 2 for the first 6 or so matches over previous seasons, you will have noticed that some teams don't win any , but as the team gels and finds its preferred line up, they move up the table and often end up in the play-offs (or promotion).
CityShrimp, I didn’t say any of that at all. I said different game, different day, Man U brushed aside Brighton midweek when last week they scabbed it after Brighton hit the woodwork 4 times. Same teams, different result after different performances.
