O/T Potential lock down?

O/T Potential lock down?

Postby redrobo » Fri Oct 09, 2020 8:33 pm

My son in law got news today from a friend of his manager who works in Track and Trace that on Monday the Government is to announce another complete lock down. Wasn't sure if it regional or nationwide but whichever isn't the news we wanted to hear but not totally unexpected.

Not sure how this will effect football at our level but I'm not expecting anything positive.

It may only last for a limited time but if it's for 6 months then problems for the financing of clubs like ours will suffer seeing as how the EFL and Premiership still seem to be at loggerheads about any cash handouts from our so called bigger cousins.

Sad really but if people would stick to the rules then maybe this lock out would not have been necessary.

As for the Government bailing sectors of the economy out, then how many and how much more..... :?: :?: :?:

There will be further restrictions but probably nothing like the spring. Either way, without fans clubs will need a bail out very soon.

My mate got a tip off from his uncles hamster that if we all hop on our left leg and put a spoon in our mouth we won't catch the virus.

What a load of scaremongering rubbish you have put on a public forum. People may be suffering with poor mental health and you are chucking this rubbish around on here. Rather than put stuff like this up, research it yourself and make sure you know what you are on about before posting.

There's been a lot of talk in the media about new restrictions but regional rather than national, albeit broader than the current local authority areas. Also I think it's limited to shutting pubs and restaurants rather than the level of lockdown we had in March. It's not really a surprise given how cases have been rising and the strain that's putting on the NHS.

Lockdown....? What we had in spring was a joke of a lockdown, and how many people will obey another pretend lockdown?
People would rather wear lanyards from eBay than wear a mask.

The government has made a complete mess of this from day one and now most people’s trust in them has gone.

So who’s at fault then, the government making the rules or the people ignoring them.
Masks are to be worn when shopping inside but I was in the Heysham co- op on Thursday morning, three other people in there with me and only one of us ( me) wearing a mask.
That’ll be Boris’s fault as well I suppose

TBF, some of the lack of trust must lie at the governments door after the lamentable Dominic Cummings saga, where he was bang to rights, lied through his teeth and kept his job.
There was no comeback from him disobeying lockdown rules, the die is cast.

Not an excuse, but it will be contributory factor.

And I’m in the stand at Oldham writing this with a mask on btw!!

We've had the blame game going on for years and still no sign of a Labour government who could have made a real difference to anything, Had there been, myself and others would have voted them back into office.
While were at it, I'm starting to think Rishi Sunak is a Labour infiltrator, spending more borrowed money than McDonnell (had he got in) could ever have dreamed of :D

We were told that masks were useless by Whitty and his deputy, The WHO(not the band) and even that Hilary Jones on the tele. Suddenly they became life savers and everyone has to wear a piece of cloth to save everybody around them from getting a virus that has a 0.03% chance of killing them.

When/where did Whitty say that?
When/where did WHO say that?
Where's your evidence that the virus has a 0.03% mortality rate?

Not saying you are wrong, just not heard any of those directly. Thanks.

Masks have always been to protect others if you are asymptomatic.

When you go for surgery, the surgeons wear masks to stop infecting the patient, not because they are worried about catching something from the person on the operating table.

Less fun than a conspiracy I know.

Okay... So Whitty didn't say masks were useless then? And no evidence to support your made up figure of 0.003%? But thank you for playing.

I wasn't going to even bother watching Hilary Jones' nonsense, but thought I better had.

Well done. Masks don't protect the person wearing them from the virus. Quite right.

WEARING A MASK IS TO PROTECT OTHER PEOPLE!!! It greatly reduces the spread of the virus FROM the infected, but asymptomatic person. It is an altruistic action. Do people seriously still not understand that?

No sorry Keith., Whitty was saying that only a minority of a minority will get seriously ill from a virus.

I will find you that survival rate when I get a sec. I won't use your I follow income calculator

Mortality rate is likely to be in the region of 0.5%, possibly less.
Probably around 60% will catch it.

That's about 195,000 people who will die due to COVID-19 and indeed, most will be elderly and/or with pre-existing conditions.

But, most of those 195,000 will be treated in hospital. As will about one million others who are admitted but recover. That would lead to many other people with 'recoverable conditions' dying unnecessarily, such as someone in a car crash who can't be admitted because ICU beds are all full.

That is the problem.

But what about the people dying at home from illness and disease because they can not get treatment due to Covid? The people taking their lives because of poor mental health, financial ruin and other issues resulting from lock downs.

Would the people who have sadly died in the spring have survived a flu season?

Are the hospitals full?
