Next UK lockdown?

Next UK lockdown?

Postby Keith » Sat Oct 31, 2020 2:54 pm

Is that going to stop football again? Will 'elite sport' be exempted? If [for example] they say 'professional football' can go ahead but stop lower leagues, then what happens to the FA Cup?

Announcement later today, hopefully football will continue.

They've moved the announcement from 4pm to 5pm, so could well be football related, unless the ministers want an extra hour in the bar
Enjoy yourself.... It is later than you think

An extra hour to decide what to do, given the way they've made it up on the hoof so far!

And what precisely would that shower on the opposite benches do about it other than complain about everything without making worthwhile suggestions. They are as clueless as the current lot in No10 and for that matter throughout Europe.

Their Shadow Chancellor is a real piece of work Full of complaints but nothing worthwhile comes out of its mouth,

Like the circuit breaker proposed by Labour on the 14 October, which will be coming into force on 5 November?

Three weeks ago, scientists advising the government, that a 'lockdown' was required.
Two weeks 'that shower on the opposite benches' said 'listen to the scientists' and that a lockdown was required.

Boris was quite rightly refusing to call for a national lock down because certain areas had little infection. A national lock down will do untold damage to the economy BUT just like a football manger they alter their tactics and game plan as situations demand.

A new lock down will do untold damage to the economy especially as Brexit is on the horizon that in itself will create problems despite the news that a deal is on the cards from the Irish Foreign Minister who has been one of the loudest anti Brexit mouthpieces over the last year or so.

Boris can't bloody win whatever he does.

Even this far in, you and Boris haven't worked out that the number of infections rising, leads to hospital admissions about two to three weeks later? The scientists were recommending a lock down BEFORE it got critical rather than wait, at which point recovery is more difficult.

Science, statistics and facts or stick your finger in the air and make policy on the hoof.

Regardless, you asked what the opposition would do? Answer, they'd listen to scientists.

Would they though, if in power?

We can all say what we would do when we don’t have to or can’t.

A National lock down at any time would /is going to cause untold damage to the economy.

I still maintain and will maintain that the policy to do regional lock downs was the right way to go BUT as the virus spreads they have to adjust their tactics...and quite rightly so.

No one wants a lockdown, it's going to damage the economy. However, it has seemed obvious a circuit breaker was needed weeks ago. For whatever reason, Boris decided it wasn't.

Had we had a circuit breaker at the end of September, as SAGE suggested, a short break should have worked, places would have closed for shorter amount of time and the damage would have been smaller.

Now, businesses are being forced to close in the run up to their busiest time of the year, for longer - December 2 is not going to be the end point for everyone.

He's done nothing, like in March, and made it worse. He's a clown.

They were told this was happening a fortnight ago by the scientists!

Your approach, as with the government's is 'we'll wait until it happens, then react' rather than put measures in place to stop the fire from spreading.

Labour don't "want" a lockdown! Nobody does! But the people like you want to sacrifice the NHS to 'protect the economy' rather than listen to the scientists. Let this virus run wild and the economy still fails.

That is what is happening. Not locking down means the NHS becomes overwhelmed. That is the entire reason for having a lockdown (or fire guard, circuit breaker or whatever they choose to call it).

Saying you don't want a lockdown and want to protect the economy, but also saying you don't want the NHS to be sacrificed, is like throwing rocks in the air and saying you don't want them to fall back to earth. Your intention may not be to have rocks falling back to earth, you may just think rocks look pretty when they are above your head, but it is so inevitable that they'll come back down, that if you deny it happening, you'll look pretty stupid.

Elite sport can continue, so that's National League N/S and up. Not sure where that leaves Maldon though, since they're not classed as elite.

Not sure about iFollow as well, hopefully we can still get the commentary.

If you are talking about next weekend's FA Cup game, there is no iFollow anyway, as it is on the BBC. For the rest of the season, if football goes ahead, which it looks like it will, then iFollow should continue as it is part of the 'regular work', even though it isn't a paid position, so I think it continues, both home & away.

You are probably like a few others, not allowing others to have a different opinion than yours.

You may not like it but I stand by everything I've said.

And by the way i am not a Tory....
