O/T That American election

O/T That American election

Postby redrobo » Wed Nov 04, 2020 5:08 pm

I've been watching some of the coverage of the above and what a shambles the entire electoral system is .

I know that there is plenty wrong with our country and government but boy am I glad that I live in our system rather than the comedy show that they have across the pond.

Trump is an absolute idiot and for my money can''t be trusted in anything he says especially his latest twitter pronouncements.

To call for the count to be halted flies in the face of the right of every bodies vote to be counted.

I can't understand why any sane, rational, intelligent person would vote for Trump. Also anyone with kids or grandkids or hopes to have them, as if Trump wins you can pretty much kiss goodbye to Planet Earth. For once I think I'm pretty much in agreement with you Neil.

I genuinely believe there will be blood on the streets after this election, with the orange man-child stoking up the far-right militia. Most terrorism in the USA is already from the far-right, 'Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet'...

So how did that work out then?

As I was reading your post, I glanced up at my signature, and thought - 'he's made stuff up, he's screaming it loudly, and yes, it's potentially only a matter of time before his right wing militia supporters start to kill people'. So much for democracy.

I suspect Trump is angling for riots on the streets. Bet his national guard do not target the white supremacists.

Depends if the armed forces, and most importantly their commanders, accept the result of the election if Trump loses, in which case they should act on the basis that Biden is the new Commander-in-Chief and they therefore do not favour Trump and his lies and racism.

I don't think 9/11 (3,000+ murdered) was perpetrated by "Right Wing Militia" or right wing terrorists . Or the kids killed at the concert in Manchester in 2017. Maybe Eddie Izzard should re think his mantra.

Errr, it's Keith said about most US terrorism being far right, which in fact the FBI has stated more than once that they perceive the biggest threat as being from the far right, and the UK security services have described it as the fastest growing terrorist risk in the UK. 9/11 was 19 years ago, what about the mass shootings and other terrorist attacks in the US since then? As for the Eddie Izzard quote, it's talking about fascism generally, and I would say that Islamist terrorists, given their ideology, could quite easily be described as fascist; they are, after all, highly authoritarian and intolerant of other beliefs.

It could be just as true about extreme Left wing Socialists but that wouldn't fit Izzard's agenda. The IRA killed lots of civilians as well as troops and Gerry Adams and his mates regarded themselves as socialists.

So that’s ok sticking a label on the IRA to fit you’re narrative then?

Let's be clear: I'm not a supporter of any kind of terrorism. I'm also not a socialist. Nor am I a communist, fascist, or subscriber to any form of ideology. I consider myself a mostly tolerant, moderate political centrist. I know some people like to think if you're not right wing you're left wing, and vice versa, but it's simply not true. Anyway, time to crack a beer (Heineken 0.0 tonight).

I was merely pointing out that the extreme left is every bit as violent as the extreme right.

Islamic terrorism as seen recently in France is not perpetrated by right wing people. Lee Rigby was not beheaded on the street in London by a right wing supporter,

No I don't. Both Sinn Fein and the SDLP who are in the same camp as the IRA regard themselves as Socialists. Gerry Adams regards himself as a Socialist.

And as for Freez who seems to be making out that all left wingers are cuddly democrats , how about the Russians who have killed millions and Chairman Mao's regime in China also responsible for killing millions.

You're kind of just screaming into the void here GS, there isn't really anything to argue against. I don't think anybody is denying the existence of left wing terrorism or terrible far left regimes.

The initial point was about security services in the UK and USA noting the rise of right wing terrorism, and particularly in the USA how this could flare up with Trump making all these crazy statements.

Not sure why that has prompted you to start shouting about left wing terrorism also sometimes being a thing. Nobody has denied this, but it's just not really relevant to the discussion about Trump/the election.

Where did I say that? Cuddly?
Read it again, and I’m actually confirming your comment and pointing out that though there is balance, it’s the methods used which are wrong.
Ironically, I’ll give you that, but never the less, the point stands.
Carry on pontificating! :D

Biden wins! According to the BBC just now (17:15). All he needs to do now is get into the Whitehouse itself seeing as Trump won't admit defeat. More legal wrangling to follow. So much easier to win elections over here. :D
