This may be a blessing in disguise as we won't play him or hendrie and instead be able to start better players(literally any striker on our roster and cooney).

This isn’t FIFA, by the way, Or the US, we don’t have players on our roster. We have a squad! Sorry, creeping in of Americana I find intensely annoying! Soz.

In that case, if you actually are from the US, apologies to you, as you do have all that, and top of the morning is Irish, by the way. :D
Not sure about the pies from the scousers, but I will take top bins!!
Feel free to import as many of your lovely phrases as you can, in every post!
Looking forward to it,

What a bally gaff! To make an opprobrious remark about creeping americana only to discover the creeping was not at all creeping but innocent and culturally established.
Good job he is only an American speaker, eh Freez?

And what's your problem with Jordan Slew, vanillaturtle?

Not a problem as a person he seems like a nice albeit a little hotheaded and aggressive. I just think our team performs so much better with a more technical and goal minded striker and Slew doesn't offer anything but pure speed as opposed to Stockton, AJ and McAlinden.

McAlinden is much shiftier and can take defenders on effectively.

AJ is technical and a good finisher and a good passer in general does everything pretty well. Stereotypical striker. Does not make many mistakes.

Cole I think is the best for our team as he is incredibly strong and can hold the ball up with the best of them and shoots very well, also improved his dribbling quite a bit. Does not make many mistakes. One of the best strikers in league two in my opinion.

Our strikers are very good and I would like to see two up top every game but Slew is a waste. He is not bad but we have really good strikers.

DA says Jordan was provoked by a Newport player but only the reaction(an elbow to the stomach) was caught on camera. The Ref put it in his report despite none of the officials seeing it.

Slew isn't as good individually as McAlinden/AJ, but he's the best back-up for filling Stockton's role in the side as a target/hold up striker. Obviously he doesn't match the levels of Stockton (he'd be starting ahead of him if he did), but he does a decent job of occupying defenders and gathering the ball. Works very hard and presses well too.

I initially felt he lacked technical ability but having seen more of him, I feel that his real problem is just a complete lack of composure. He's shown, in flashes, some pretty proficient technique (neat touches, good passing/crossing, a few good dribbles), but just seems to lack composure and fluff things a bit. His shooting/finishing sums it up - most of his shots he just wildly swings his laces at the ball.

I think being a Stockton back-up is arguably his most important role in the side. It means that we can rest Stockton/him being injured and we don't lose a physical presence up front. AJ/McAlinden are very different players and would require us to alter how we move the ball forward. I don't think directly comparing Slew with McAlinden/AJ makes much sense - better to appreciate their differing styles and what they bring to the side.

Yes you make a good point that Slew is the most similar player to Stockton that we have. However I think overall AJ is definitely better and McAlinden is comparable. We should adapt our style when AJ is in and have him there instead of Slew. We have two good strikers on the bench because they don't fit our team style. Maybe putting one of AJ/McAlinden up top along with Stockton/Slew would be worth a shot.

I thought... hoped... still hope that much of this is a confidence issue. He just doesn't look confident enough to shoot when the opportunity opens up. I'd love to see him pull the trigger more often and earlier.

Every manager throughout the game has his own preferences in every position and DA obviously sees things in Slew that we the fans don't. However there are a couple of players that for the life of me I don't understand DA's apparent reluctance to give extended game time to. Those are McAlinden and Pringle both of whom we have seen very little but when they have have done nothing wrong other than possibly play out of position ie Pringle on the wing and McAlinden playing deeper than he is used to.

Maybe with injuries both will get an opportunity in their true positions in the near future.

As for the Newport incident it would appear that their No6 Cooper had had a go at Jordan which lead to Slew reacting. Interesting how video footage was submitted that showed Jordan reacting but not Cooper's initial action..... :o :o :o
