I decided to watch their game last night as we are playing both them and Bradford in the next few games.
Grimsby had a good bit of the possession but were desperately lacking in effective forwards. Hanson has been injured for all but 5 of their games this year. Jackson, Gibson, and Green (from the bench) offered very little presence.
They looked weak down their left side both defensively and offensively. Their most inventive players came in the form of Morais and Bennett. Morais is not the quickest (at 35), but is tricky and can put a decent cross in from the right, and likes to switch wings. Bennett started on the left where his contribution was negligible but became their key focal point when he was switched to a number 10 free role. Bizarrely, he was subbed off shortly after being instrumental in their goal. They have a young lad in the middle called Spokes who's in the build of Michael Stringfellow who got around the pitch well and looked knackered at the end.
I'm not surprised one bit that Olly has gone. He sounded very rattled on and off the pitch. He was desperately trying to get a forward in but failed and have had ownership issues. Their fans universally think he bottled it as the going was getting tough and he's left them with a very ordinary squad.
We have to get at them early and pick at a side that will be bereft of confidence.
