Personally I was rooting for Porto, Villareal and any other minnows facing the Sky financed Mega Clubs who now inhabit the upper echelons of the Premiership.

Whilst England has this imbalance of the super rich clubs, it will continue to propagate generations of new football fans who worship the super rich from afar (in front of their TV screens). Grassroots football in this country will continue, but as an increasing irrelevance to a growing army of armchair fans and inevitably more lower league clubs will cease to exist.

So for me as a lifelong non-league and now lower FL fan you can stuff the likes of Man U, Chelsea and Arsenal et al because they are power and money obsessed giants who care only for themselves and wouldn't care a jot if the rest of the football community went to the wall.

As for the other comments, I will never, ever understand how any Englishman can want a foreign team to beat an English one. Personally, i have a huge dislike for Liverpool, but I'd never want them to lose against a non-English team.

A sizable portion of their wealth comes from overseas rights to the Premier League as well as any cash from Sky. It's widely predicted that the sale of overseas rights will more or less match the domestic rights once the new deals have been finalised.

Further to that, the Champions League cash has distorted domestic competitions across Europe - look at the majority of the top flights, in each league there is at least two teams pretty much guaranteed Champions League cash season after season.

Which I understand are still in the area below the North Stand. I understood it was the intention to floodlit the area of the playing fields behind the Main Stand for evening training sessions of Youth teams and others.

I think all the top clubs generate a lot of envy, but they do have budgets large enough to have very large training academies and youth squads, of which they obviously keep the best talent, but sell and loan on a lot of well trained players, which helps the rest of league clubs who don't have the same scouting abilities.

Now what would really impress me would be Sir Alex sanctioning the loan of some of his brighter youth prospects to an old Utd stalwart by the name of Mcllroy. I dont think people have a grudge against Man Utd. I dont have a grudge against the players or the manager.

Personally for me it is the arrogance of the fans. Someone said to me the other day that we now have a whole generation of young people who have chosen Man Utd because of success and dont know any different. You would realistically have to be over 20 years old to remember them as the perpetual bridesmaid.

Most football fans hope for success. A vast proportion of Utd fans expect it as their God given right, and have to be blunt, been spoiled.

I honestly would like to see a cap on wages, ticket prices and and foreign players at the top level and return the game to the average working class family. It would be great to geuinely wonder who was going to win the title, on nurtured talent, inspired signings and tactics. You would never see a Manager get a promotion from The Championship and have a genuine chance at the title as Brian Clough did.

I think that would benefit the game all the way down the pyramid and also benefit the National game by nurturing home grown talent at grass roots.

Maybe I am just getting old and hanker back to a long lost time.

I agree with most of what you say there Mark but as an old Man Utd fan ( who I supported from about 1966 and started going to O T when they got relegated) may I say that you would never be able to call arrogant ! I did and have always given credit where credit is due, yes I disliked Liverpool FC when they were winning everything and yes I was envious of them but never in those days did I want to see them lose when representing England in Europe. So we are not all arrogant

'Twas ever thus. Before the Man Utd bandwaggon rolled in to town, kids were Liverpool fans because of their success. Before that, there were Leeds fans because of their success. The difference is that Man Utd managed to cement (at the expense of practically everyone else) their position at the top table, so unlike the transient success of Leeds United and the blip at a crucial moment in time for Liverpool, Man Utd have maintained a sustained position.

But I disagree that it is 'bad for the game', if anything, I think it has been very good for the only club I care about. When I was growing up I was surrounded by Leeds, Liverpool, Man Utd and a few West Ham fans. There was even an odd lad a few years older than me who lived at the end of my street who supported Chelsea. There were very few Morecambe fans among my peers. Now, you drive around Morecambe and it is great to see kids in replica Morecambe shirts. They wear them with pride, something that could never happen when I was at school. I would guess that almost every one of them has a 'second team' in the Premiership, disproportionately Man Utd but the team they *really* care about is Morecambe. There is also a healthy section of young adults coming through. Late teenagers, who two or three decades ago would have gone to Manchester, Liverpool, London or Leeds to watch football but now, are Morecambe fans who would only travel to Manchester if we are playing Stockport!

There are a great many reasons why Morecambe Football Club has grown and been successful. One of those reasons is the inaccessibility of live football to the average working man. Long may that continue... come on United!

I hate Man U with a passion, always have always will. It's ingrained.

I'm 31 and although i may support Morecambe now, there will always be a little bit of my heart that belongs to Liverpool and always will.

My Dad supported Liverpool when Phil Taylor was manager so i basically had no choice. Everton were the biggest team in Merseyside then. And Forest, Everton, and countless others were more successful than that lot at Salford ever were.

I hate their fans, and i have many people i class as friends who support them. They were strangely reluctant to pick up their phone a couple of weeks ago.

I hate Alex Ferguson. He must be the only manager in the country that seems to have a camera on him when their teams scores, the only knighted person that the press are almost instructed to call Sir every time they talk about him. He is a good manager not a great manager. Great managers have tactics and don't have to rely on biased refs, linesmen, FA officials.

The only 2 decent things to come out of United are Sammy and Twissy, but i can say that cos Liverpool had Mark Wright and Mark Lawrenson. So it balances.
