Podcast 4.1 live now

Postby Freez » Wed Apr 28, 2021 12:35 pm

Live now, Podcast 4.1, we did an interview with co owner Jason Whittingham that was too long to fit on Podcast 4, so rather than edit it, Jason gets all his own in Shrimpstrust 4.1.
Enjoy.

Great interview, some positive sounds about the finances and the general manager post. And the owners sound like they're planning to stick around a while longer. Definitely worth a listen.

I do appreciate the honesty from Jason Whittingham about their intentions with the club - that they are ultimately hoping to sell it on for a higher price than they bought it. It's nice that they are up front about it, rather than trying to dress things up differently.

Great to hear the praise he had for Charlie and James too. They've been brilliant since coming into the club! Seems there is quite a good dynamic between the owners and the rest of the board.

I've always been curious about the selection/decision making process for hiring Derek Adams. Who were the main people assessing/interviewing for the role etc? They've made a brilliant choice!

I like the fact that he must keep his eye on things as he admitted he had seen the “ pawnbroker and ambulance chaser” type referrals to him and Colin, laughing!! :D

Great to hear from Jason and hopefully he has dispelled some of the Shrimpsvoices myths regarding the ownership and their intentions.

Brilliant to hear Jason praising Charlie, James and Derek as well as the Co Chairmen.

Did he mention selling the ground and building houses? Did i miss that bit?

Thanks for that brilliant interview Freez! Heart warming stuff and we really do seem to be in very safe hands at the moment.

Contrast that to 2017 when we were stumbling from one crisis to another and the very existence of the club seemed in doubt at times. (Hence my latest user name from 2017 onwards. Thank goodness it never happened)!

Hopefully we will be back in the ground soon with our ranks swelled by many new fans.

Really good to hear the interview.

He makes clear that he and Colin aren’t football fans, don’t operate the football club on a day-to-day basis and bought it with a view that it was cheap and could sell it on and make a few quid. It is an honest view and at least puts it into perspective.

For the Captain Hindsights after the debacle of Lemos and Cala, fans had a genuine concern about both Colin and Jason, who he admits the EFL saw as an asset-stripper and an ambulance chaser. The outcome was the formation of the Shrimps Trust, which other than the involvement of Charlie and James, is the most positive development at the club in the last 10 years.

Perhaps time to celebrate the improved position we’re in.

I would put appointing Derek into that category, who Jason says should be Manager of the season in the EFL

Exactly. Vital we keep hold of Derek. I hope he stays a lot longer than the 3 years he mentioned as being a managers' "shelf life". Extended contract for Derek would be top of my wish list.

Is Derek based in the area on a permanent basis does anyone know.

I've posted numerous times about the lack of news from our owners so it was excellent to hear from them both about how things are in the corridors of power.

Jason spoke with clarity and it's excellent to hear their thoughts and aspirations going forward..

The most pleasing statement was that they would like the club to be sold to existing BoD's and I'm sure that the vast majority feel likewise'

Forthcoming announcements about new appointments and the planning that has already been agreed about next season dependent on which league we are in are most welcome and the 3 year plan already in place confirms their and the current Boards continued commitment to our club.

Thank you.

Well, he did say that the FA, in the 'fit & proper person' interview suggested that they were "an ambulance chaser and an asset stripper" so we weren't alone in being concerned, especially hot on the heels of the Brazilian chancer and Italian lunatic.

There are two ways to make a profit. Increase the value of the asset or strip the asset. I'm delighted that I was wrong and they, with the support of the rest of the board, have increased the value of their asset and the club we love.

Wrong about nobody wanting the managers job and being able to do a better job with such poor resources as well weren't you?

Jeez, you just can't stop picking at old wounds can you?

When did Derek clear up dog crap & glass before holding a training session on a school field?
How often has Derek not been paid and had to put the team out after their wages haven't gone in?
Which of Derek's best players have been sold for far less than they are worth, just to stop us going in to administration?

I repeatedly said I wanted to see Jim given a season with reasonable resources and stability instead of lurching from crisis to crisis. I doubt if Derek would have touched us with a barge-pole a season or so earlier.

You genuinely believe Derek would have come in when Lemos, Cala & goodness knows who else were arguing over who owned the club and who was responsible for the wages being paid, sold Barkhausen and still taken us in to the play-offs? You're deluded if you do.

Dunno, you would have to ask Derek those questions i guess. Maybe you could ask him when you tell him he keeps signing rubbish goalies or that he shouldn't be picking Yann Songo'o?

Let us know what he says.

Didn't say he'd signed a "rubbish" goalkeeper, I said I didn't think any of them were better than the one we already had. Still not seen anything to suggest otherwise. I know you felt that Songo'o's homophobic abuse was fine. Fortunately, the FA didn't agree with you. I thought the club handled it very poorly. I still do.

Feel free. As you are posting under an anonymous pseudonym, I don't think you will get very far.

Let's see... did you make any condemnation of the homophobic slur? Nope.

What you did do, was reply to my post [made after Songo'o had scored the weekend before]

You surely cannot still be defending his actions?! There’s one hell of a difference between an injury and an offensive slur. The former is just part of the game, the latter should never be anywhere near the game. End of.

It demonstrates how far society needs to go

Statistically, in the region of 4% of the population are LGBTQ+. With 25 men on the pitch at any one time, so statistically, there is likely to be one 'not heterosexual' man on every football pitch. I wonder why there are so few who feel safe being 'out'?

It's a shame that the very belated apology wasn't even unequivocal. "I'm really disappointed in myself for using that term, because it does not reflect the type of person I am but it was under provocation".

I'm sorry but... is not an apology. Provocation from a player who was laying on the floor getting treatment, and who had been down for about a minute since landing heavily?

And some think the ban is "over the top"?

BerlinWaller wrote:"WHAT A BELTER" when he scored on Saturday though eh Keith you big Drama Queen.

Hmm... so no condemnation, but called me a "drama queen" when I expressed my dissatisfaction?

Right, okay then.

Just think, you could have said 'rightly' "facing a lengthy ban, which would have been you expressing a view, rather than simply the fact. Did you condemn his comment? Did you express support for LGBTQ+ people? Or did you just moan when I suggested that as his employer, the club should suspend him, pending investigation, as would happen in any other walk of life?

Funny how you were trying to have a pop at me and yet you ended up threatening to "take it further" and how distressed you are. 8-)

Yes. Fair point. I was meaning off the pitch but should have made that clear.

I’d like Derek to stay and establish a dynasty. I really think with time he could stamp his mark not just on the first team but on the club’s entire structure and become the talent development centre it was become under Jim Harvey.
