But is there an 'opt-in' & 'opt-out' of direct marketing option? Without that option, the data can only be used for the reason it was provided. Obviously, in this case, I can't see anyone being upset by the club contacting them and offering priority booking, but it would still be a breach of GDPR.

The registration process has an opt-in box that states:

I would like to receive information from My Club <check box>

So there would have been a proportion of fans who could have received information.

There is also an opt-out box from EFL Digital and there is no reason why EFL Digital couldn’t have emailed fans on the club’s behalf, albeit more complicated.

Sincerely hope you get a ticket. It is though a tough one for the club. I’m normal circumstances they would use tickets from previous games and you’d have no problem getting a ticket. From the Trusts recent newsletter the club have said they didn’t really have many options and couldn’t use ifollow due to GDPR issues.

They do also mention that they are looking at some innovative ways to improve things for 21/22 season. I’ve posted on here a few times before that for me membership schemes (giving discounts on tickets for small up front fee) and monthly direct debit option for season tickets are a must on the modern world.

i got one thanks!

i bought a season ticket knowing full well that i could miss a lot of games because of Covid but seen that handing my money over was a good way of helping the club out in hard times.

I'll try......

Question 7

Will the Club consider introducing further levels of prioritisation, such as long term season ticket holders who didn’t renew for 2020/21, 2019/20 season ticket holders, fans who are registered on the Club’s ticket portal, Centenary Season Crowdfunder supporters, iFollow subscribers, Shrimps Trust members or shareholders?

MFC Response

Not for this game sadly. A number of options were considered, but GDPR restrictions prevented the club from being able to use data stored by other organisations. This is extremely frustrating as the Club completely understands the very reasonable calls for further prioritisation to be introduced, but with such high demand and the data restrictions there just wasn't a way of doing things quickly enough. What we can say is that we are seriously considering introducing some truly innovative ways of making the Mazuma more accessible to a much wider group of people for the 2021/2022 season and we are keen to work with the Shrimps Trust and other organisations that are part of the Morecambe FC family to maximise the impact of this.

There are echos of the PMG/MD era aren't there? Where fans were regarded as a hindrance & cash cow who should just pay up and shut up. Not a good way to run a business.

Logged on at 12 and refreshed at 12.00:20 and 598th in the queue. Anyone not on immediately after 12 has no chance.

Clicked the moment it appeared on screen. 35th in queue. Just got to number 1 and it came up with the club shop replica kit page (Yes I clicked the right button, the bottom one, not the club shop one). Then I refreshed and got a "match ticket" box on screen which I pressed, but then got a blank screen. Logged out and in again and now #791. What a cock up by the club.

Taken 23minutes to move 100 places in the online queue. Not a chance of getting one via the phoneline, constantly engaged

I still don’t understand why we couldn’t queue outside at the ground like the old days. No different to queuing in normal shops, or theme parks/zoo etc.

What a nightmare.

At the point of selling out will there be a message to this effect, or will we have to wait to get to zero to be told?

Well that was a painful process. I did eventually manage to get a ticket. Will seriously need a better system than this if we get to the final.

The club have always been poor at stuff like this and I hope they use a different system if we get to Wembley, even if it is just queuing at the Ground.

With potentially only 5,000 fans it will be a nightmare. I don't want to be travelling and going to the game on my own if my mate (who goes to every game but not a season ticket holder (I know he is mad!)), can't get one.

Season ticket holders should get their ticket plus at least one other in my opinion, so they can take someone with them they know. That big smoke is a fair way away.
