But is there an 'opt-in' & 'opt-out' of direct marketing option? Without that option, the data can only be used for the reason it was provided. Obviously, in this case, I can't see anyone being upset by the club contacting them and offering priority booking, but it would still be a breach of GDPR.
The registration process has an opt-in box that states:
I would like to receive information from My Club <check box>
So there would have been a proportion of fans who could have received information.
There is also an opt-out box from EFL Digital and there is no reason why EFL Digital couldn’t have emailed fans on the club’s behalf, albeit more complicated.
