Newport Vs FGR

Postby Bristol Shrimp » Tue May 18, 2021 7:15 pm

I know we have to do our bit and that there are 2 legs but I'll be watching this game with interest, who would you prefer made it to the final. Personally I'd hope FGR if we were to make it through. Playing Newport scares me lol.

Am I the only one puzzled by the play off dates? Forest Green and Newport play tonight and then have two more days recovery time when they play again. We topped the play off teams and yet play in two days time with far less recovery time until we play Tranmere again before Forest Green and Newport play again. Any niggles or slight injuries from the first of our games means a player is likely to miss the second match We seem to be at a disadvantage despite finishing 5 points ahead of the other three teams.

I've been kind of curious about that. Not even from a points perspective but just why they would schedule the Second game of the week to KO first on Sunday. Granted it's only a few hours difference, but still seems odd.

Newport’s pitch is being dug up tomorrow as it’s shared with Gwent Dragons RFC. So they got permission to switch and play the home leg early, as they finished above FGR they should have played at home next week. But they would have lost home advantage as the pitch is gonna be dug up no matter what.

I initially thought that, but then, on the flip side, it has given us an extra couple of days for players to recover. We had a few players carrying niggles & injuries at the end of the season, so those extra days could be vital. Wildig in particular, but also Carlos.

I watched last night's game with interest and think that Newport are a robust team and will be a great match, worthy of a play off final (if FGR don't have a miraculous comeback).
Amond should have put at least 2 chances away I would say, so Newport in my mind were rightful winners and may prove difficult to break down. Although their histrionics seem to be something to be aware of.

But, this year, our squad seems to play a different style to previous years and don't seem to fret or panic, just bide their time, create great chances and with the recent form of Cole and CMG and Wildig, I think we should have a great chance against whoever we play.
The defence, from the midfield back, seem to be extremely confident in the last half of the season in particular.
Bring it on!!

Shame the extra time in the legs won't really matter as they'll have a week off.

Please don’t turn this into the Kevin Ellison show , his head and mouth are big enough and I’m sure he will be wanting all the limelight !
