How much evidence do you need? Hardly played him? Publicly said his game was flawed? Allowed him to go out on trial? Played a 40yr old in front of him?

It's old ground and in such a monumental week should be put to one side but lets not distort history.

It is old ground and should now be put to rest. We will never all agree on this topic but we are at WEMBLEY!!!

Can we at least all agree that whatever happened in the past is past and that the for and against Jim Bentley should be put aside NOW. PLEASE!!!

just like to add my pennies worth........ Jim was and is a great bloke, he had time for a chat with everybody but had many flaws as a manager, perhaps he was too nice. I think this was one of the reasons he was never sacked, not easy sacking a decent bloke. Now we have King Derek so time to move on folks and let's look forward to Monday. Just a quick point I would like to make about Ellison, I will be ignoring him on Monday, no applause, nothing. People say he was a great servant to the club, but servants get treated badly and poorly paid.He was paid well by the club the time he was here but now criticises the club (when we were broke) for offering him new contracts on reduced terms, contracts which he signed when nobody forced him to.He paints a very negative picture of his last couple of months at the club but there are two sides to every story and all respect to MFC and King Derek for their dignified silence.

You're basing that on the fact that Jim signed Carlos from non-League and gave him his senior debut?

Carlos has grown, physically & mentally over the last 18 months and yes, Derek has brought out the best in him so far, but it is one hell of a stretch to say what would have happened under Jim. The anti-Jim brigade do love to turn their predictions in to statements of 'fact'.

I’m at risk of entering another Jim debate that I wish we could just move on from, but Keith... seriously? Carlos was a dead cert to be released! He was chucked in the reserves and that was the end of it.

Derek said earlier this season how he went to watch a reserve game and essentially ‘saved’ his Morecambe career because he saw the spark that Carlos brought to games. Jim gave chances to Carlos, but he clearly didn’t fancy him - he preferred players who would do the basics rather than the tricks, speculative passes etc. that we have seen in the last 12-18 months.

Carlos said himself this season that he will be forever thankful of Derek for giving him the proper opportunity that he wouldn’t have got otherwise.

Completely agree about Jim, a great bloke, a fantastic centre half, and a manager who stuck by the club in its darkest hours because of his love for Morecambe.

And I also agree about Kev... what he said in that podcast, about being annoyed that the club (who by the way Kev, were struggling with finances and ownership! It’s not all about you mate!!) weren’t offering him better deals despite being top goalscorer, was dreadful. I can’t help but think what we could’ve achieved if Kev hadn’t started most games for the last couple of seasons, look at how successful he’s being off the bench at Newport! He may have had excellent stamina, but he was a defensive liability at times (as shown by how Carlos has excelled in that position with his excellent defensive mindset).

However, what you get with Kev is an honest bloke who loves football. That doesn’t, however, mean I’ll be cheering him on Monday!!

I rated him, struggled to even get in the reserves side due to unfortunate injuries, and now is nowhere to be seen.

However, maybe it’s a blessing in disguise that he wasn’t around the first team with Carlos. They always seemed attached at the hip and I think Carlos being shoved into the first team environment with players like Toums and Songo’o to help him has accelerated his confidence and maturity!

I have a feeling that given the wide open spaces of Wembley, Carlos will have an excellent game on Monday running the Newport defence ragged. Helping our beloved shrimps to promotion to League 1 would be a fitting farewell if he is to be transferred for a big fee. COYS

Carlos was two years younger. He was knocked off the ball every challenge. His tricks, flicks & skills didn't come off because he wasn't ready. Now he's stronger. As a result, he's much more difficult to knock over.

I don't recall any fans watching Carlos play under Jim, calling for him to have more game time. I remember watching him against Carlisle in the Paint-Pot Trophy and he looked like he struggled to run without falling over! Now, he's incredible, his feet have caught up in speed with his brain!

I didn't bring the subject up, and agree we should be moving on, but come on, unless you are Jim Bentley, you can't say what would have happened, and it is laughable that people are complaining that Jim letting a League Two player go on trial at a Championship club is 'evidence' that Jim didn't rate him! That defies logic. If he'd gone for a trial at a National League North club, I'd be agreeing with you, but the trial was with a Championship side!

As I said elsewhere, I'd like to see Ellison given a 'polite round of applause' verging on indifference. Booing him will simply get him fired up and he'll love that, so definitely don't boo!

For all our success under Adams he seemed to be unfairly frozen out. I've never heard him say a bad word about our fans or the wider club

I totally agree with this. He deserves our respect for his service to the club and I think he’ll be wanting to be booed and being nice to him will throw him off his game. It’s a win win!

Why fuel Kev's ego? Derek does right, ignore him and don't feed the fire. We all know how Kev works, we have enjoyed being a part of it but now we have to ignore him and not play his games

Like Napoleon reincarnated.

Wouldn't you just follow DA into battle. Yet again we are the underdogs but that's the way we like it!

We are slight underdogs according to the bookies (VERY marginal - they’ve found it tough to separate the two sides). I like us being these plucky underdogs who have had a meteoric rise, and also (as long as we don’t get drawn into silly antics) the “Kev v Derek” situation masks the actual quality in our side. The more people big-up this “HUGE” rivalry between those two, the more our talented squad goes under the radar!

Mike Flynn has said a few interesting things about the situation. He categorically said in an interview I watched yesterday that Adams obviously made the right decision to release Ellison as we're 4th in the league now.

Wouldn't be surprised if he wants Ellison to put a sock in it as it's a bit of a distraction from the superb job he's done at Newport over the past few years.

Completely agree. He'll thrive on us booing him when he comes on the pitch, so I really hope we don't fall for it. We know that is what he'll be wanting, so we shouldn't feed him.

Nothing would annoy Kev more than a wall of silence. Don't acknowledge him at all. He is a one man pantomime.
