Keith Hill. But it could equally be someone completely off the radar. Bit like Derek was.

I agree Hill or some random we have never heard of and have to google and then realise the board might have just pulled a rabbit out of the hat.

It's going to be Hill, but my choice would be Alex Neil.

I think Keith Hill has the gritty street fighter know how we are going to need very soon. His knowledge of lower league players could also prove invaluable. No doubt there are going to be massive changes to the squad very soon.

Kieth Hill seems the most realistic, experienced at this level, out of work, use to working with small budgets like ours, based in N/W, and should accept the job if offered it.

My head says Keith Hill, because of rumours to that effect and because we need someone who knows League 1 and the players we need.

My heart wants someone different who would get us excited with a proven record in Scotland, Europe or a Premier assistant looking for a challenge.

Just a pity that Mark Cooper has gone to Barrow could have been amongst the candidates with an impressive record.

Wouldn't want him anyway, seems like a horrible little man. We need someone who has been there and done it in league 1 against the odds. Keith Hill has, but he's not an appointment that excites. Would love Alex Neil, but would be very surprised if that happened, although I thought Derek Adams was a coup for us at the time, so who knows?

After reading Keith Hill's 'Wiki', he's had a lot of success and very little failure. He knows how to keep teams up and improve. Could be perfect for us.

So how did that work out then?

Yes he faced a relegation battle in the Championship and kept Barnsley up, got Rochdale to 9th in their first season in league 1, then Coley cam in and ruined it

One theme seems to be that his teams run out of form towards the end of the season as he has had a few near misses, did he loose 2 x playoff finals? and then at Tranmere their form dipped towards the end.

I think as we need someone to come in quick, hit the ground running and bring lots of players with him he is the only sensible choice, didn't he sign 9 players at Bolton on deadline day?

I would love to take a chance on an untested young ambitious person but I don't think we can in our current position.

I think if Keith Hill retains John McMahon as his assistant there will be some continuity from the season just gone and also John's presence may help with persuading some of the out of contract players to sign on again.

Dave Challinor would fit that description but I agree - we’re in League One now, maybe I would’ve taken him if we had remained in L2, but going into L1 with an EFL rookie is risky.

Sam’s just said in the Radio Lancs interview that the players are eager to sign new deals so that’s hopeful!

On a slightly different note, I don’t think we should be signing back-ups - the backups should come from the squad that’s got us L1, e.g. NKP, Davis etc. Obviously this depends on how many we end up re-signing and what is available out there on the market.

It would be really interesting to know who throws their hat into the ring. I'd love it to be someone like Alex Neil or Chris Coleman as a real statement of intent and yet another step up for Big Old Morecambe. People like that not only have a great deal of experience but, as we saw with Adams, a handy little phonebook too.

Realistically, I think Keith Hill is probably the safest hands to ensure we consolidate our position and have another good foundation to build on.

Perhaps someone like Dave Artell might be a surprise name to throw into the mix?!

I’m sick of hearing all the negativity about Keith Hill

He’s got league 1 experience which is what we need going forward

When Adams signed for us a lot of Plymouth fans said he was negative and wouldn’t do anything

I don’t care what other clubs fans think it’s what the new manager does for us that matters

Keith Hill will be our new manager by the end of the weekend watch this space

Especially when it seems like 90% of the hate is coming from Tranmere fans, yet the Rochdale fans seem to really appreciate him. Rochdale are much more like us than Tranmere are. He kept Rochdale in L1 handsomely and has a phone book even larger than Derek’s. If you can’t get a “big name”, Hill’s got to be the choice.

And on top of that, he played under Jim Harvey for a season so the club isn’t exactly a stranger to him, and neither is the North-West in general.

I get why Hill is being linked with the job because he does tick a lot of the boxes. I just feel that his appointment would be one of convenience rather than being the best man for the job.

I would love to see us really push the boat out and go for somebody like Neil or go down the route Blackpool did with Critchley. Who gets the job will be a good indication of the clubs ambition.

Like everyone else I hope that the Board can replace Derek Adam’s with the best man for the club. They did a magnificent job last time. But I have just seen one name on a betting odds list, Sol Campbell! I would sincerely hope that he will not get the job. I have never forgotten or forgiven him for the disgraceful tackle on Manny Panther many years ago when he played his only game for Notts County. It should have been a red card, but he didn’t even get spoken to by the referee. Just my personal opinion.
