Deffo no to a big name

Oldham and Salford tried this and didn’t work

Keith Hill did great with Rochdale in league 1 and personally think he would do ok with us

He got Tranmere to checkatrade trophy final and into play offs so not all bad there either

Who ever the new manager is, his brief is quite simple...keep us in EFL1 and the first part of your job will be done. After that a mid to upper place in the table would be excellent.

Play attractive attacking football and all the fans ( new and old) will be behind you.... :) :) :)

If it is Hill so be it, but my preference is the Hartlepool manager despite his lack of experience in the EFl.

Whoever it is he'll have the support of everybody.

If we could manage to get Alex Neil...

Unfortunately, I don't think that's too likely! Keith Hill still does seem the most obvious name out there, which I wouldn't mind too much given the job he has done with Rochdale. Another thing in his defence regarding the Tranmere situation is Ian Dawes' post match interview after the second leg with us. Basically said a similar thing to Hill in that half the players don't fancy it.

That said, I also wouldn't mind an adventurous appointment of an exciting coach with a clear idea of what kind of team they want to build, given they will essentially be working with an almost blank slate.

It’s a great chance for the new manager

Not many managers take over a newly promoted side

They normally take over when someone gets sacked or relegated

Bearing in mind the board have been looking for a manager since Tuesday does it suggest it may not be Keith Hill who is the bookies favourite ? If we had wanted him and if he had wanted to come to us you would think he may have been appointed by now.

Perhaps some interesting names have thrown their hats into the ring who the board are considering. It could be that some are still with clubs meaning we have to approach their employer for permission to speak to them.

Maybe some white smoke will come out of the Mazuma chimney over the weekend.

I think they should adopt the smoke signals approach. All eyes over the Mazuma as the conclave of Chairmen deliberate over the final few candidates...

You wouldn't be reading CVs until 11pm every night if it was a done deal for Hill.

As regards to KH at tranmere I think a couple of players ran the club that’s why he was pushed,
We need someone who can keep the momentum going,
has a good contact base for bringing players in,
as we saw with DA some of the players we had would not be on board for a lesser manager
So
experienced
Well respected among the football fraternity ( handy when trying to sign players)
Vision to go forward
In the BoD we trust to make the right choice not just the cheapest option

I've been giving advice for over 65 years......and ignored every time.....

 ;)

Of the names mentioned Hill and Neil are the ones that fit the bill BUT wonder if Neil could get a team together on what would be limited resources following PNE and Norwich....

Hill has the knowledge and knows EFL1 but wonder if the delay in announcing who takes over puts a question mark next to his name... :?: :?: :?:

Still feel that Challinor would be worth a shout with McMahon as his assistant giving his advice on players etc.

Ardley doesn't fill me with much confidence and sacked by National League club Notts County.

The problem is with Challinor is he is in a play off game with Bromley on Sunday and if Hartlepool were to progress they will want to keep him like in our situation with Derek. I also have my doubts with some of these names mentioned whether they are capable of driving us in in league one with their wealth of experience. Alex Neil, Keith Hill and Phil Parkinson look the ones to drive us on. Not sure about Ardly being more a southern player what he could achieve. I have doubts with Steve Robinson due to my in laws are season ticket holders at Oldham and when they had him in league one he offered nothing and was sacked. I still think money wise Keith Hill is our best option. However the board will make their mind up soon.

Challinor is a risky one IMO. He has done well and seems to be a good coach but failed to deliver league footy at money bags Fylde and has done ok at one of the bigger Conference clubs.

Rod said on RL that they were getting dozens of applications every hour so we could be a million miles away with our guesses. I do feel if it was Hill it would be done by now. Maybe it was Hill but the club have had their head turned by the quality of applicants?

I agree BW I just feel that if it was going to be Hill he'd already be in. I fully expect Hill to be announced now that I've said this.

A new name in the betting now, Stephen Robinson.

Managed Oldham with little success , then 3 years managing Motherwell with a decent win % of 42%

Isn't one of our Directors ex Tranmere? Maybe he has asked for a report from them on Hill and it hasn't been a glowing one?

I would be happy with Robinson. Took Motherwell to two cup finals, and a 3rd placed finish with Europa League qualification.
