I would be happy with Robinson. Took Motherwell to two cup finals, and a 3rd placed finish with Europa League qualification.

I wouldn’t, check his track record out at Oldham when they were in league one. Scottish league means nothing it’s whether you can take a club forward in the sky bet as well and his track record doesn’t fill me with confidence.

So by that logic, DA's achievements in Scotland (two promotions and a challenge cup) which arguably helped him come to the EFL in the first place, are moot?

From Wikipedia

Morecambe

In June 2021, Robinson was appointed the new manager at Morecambe. On joining the third tier club, he was quoted as saying ‘Up the Shrimps, Up the Lads!’.

:D :D :D

Wonder if there is any truth in it :D :D

Blimey, thank god some of our fans weren't on the Plymouth board when Derek Adams was first applying. Or on the Oxford board when Chris Wilder first got that job.

Experience can be a massively overrated thing. We'd all just be hiring an endless stream of John Sheridan's if everything was all about experience and 'knowing the league' etc.

Stephen Robinson's work with Motherwell looks incredibly impressive, and he has been a name banded around for some upper L1 jobs like Doncaster. I wouldn't be particularly concerned by his brief time at Oldham. Appointed a bit late (July) in pre-season, probably too soon for him especially given the managerial black hole that is Boundary Park. I think his exploits at Motherwell put to bed any concerns from that Oldham stint.

I'd be a fan of this appointment if it the bookies turn out to be right on this one.

I agree little shrimps everyone says they don't want a journeyman manager and then when it looks like the club are pulling a rabbit out of the hat again everyone complains.

What is more impressive than his results at Motherwell is how over 4 years he has developed players sold them on and cleared the clubs debt.

Sounds like he has a fair bit of coaching experience which will put him in good stead for developing a team on a low budget.

I think he went for the Doncaster & Bournemouth jobs and has turned down the NI job twice.

Also he wanted to spend his break visiting Brendan Rogers at Leicester and Michael O'Neil at Stoke to learn more so he may have more contacts than we think.

I think this could be a cracking appointment if he is willing to see us as a long term project of 3-4 years and buys into developing the club, we might also finally see some products of the academy coming through.

Totally agree LS. People have mentioned NW knowledge being beneficial but we aren't in the HFS Loans League anymore. We don't need to have a manager who has contacts in Liverpool or Preston, we are in the 3rd Tier of English football. The last thing we want is somebody from the same old managerial merry go round like a Sheridan or a Hill. I'm quite excited about Robinson without knowing much about him.

Where is SR mentioned? I'd be very happy with it but can't see him on any odds anywhere nor any news to the affect?

If true, then I think this would be a brilliant appointment.

Let’s hope he can keep a few players on; find some good loanees; nab a couple from Scotland; and then dig some gems out from across the leagues.

Really think his record of player development is excellent.

Cross fingers.

As much as we love Garry he hardly set the world on fire at Bradford Park Avenue. Good luck Garry in whatever you choose to do but it won’t be manager at the Mazuma.

I have watched 10mins of that interview and he has me sold, he could only pick up players league 2 or below and he has managed to develop them and they have moved on to greater things.

Be very surprised if anything is announced till Mon / Tue regarding the new manager

Whoever gets the job will be our 1st manager in the highest league we have ever played in (surely one of the main reasons why a manager would want the job / challenge)

Stephen Robinson's job with Motherwell looks pretty impressive, cant understand why he quit, he could have tried doing what Alex Ferguson done with Aberdeen in the early 80s by briefly breaking up the Celtic and Rangers Monopoly in Scottish football.

My main concern is when we go through hard times is he going to be a quitter?

Excellent interview with SR. I really think he will fit into the Morecambe family exceptionally well. Also I think he could do a fantastic job for us.
