New manager | Place your theoretical bets

No doubt he sells himself very well and the similarities between ourselves and Motherwell are frightening.

My only concern is his knowledge of players in the EFL structure but that is where agents will get involved'

I'm sure he fits are requirements in terms of our budgets and family structure of our club.

Whoever is finally chosen to be the next manager will have a difficult job in rebuilding a team. Something that he seems more than capable of.

His brief spell at Oldham is a worry which wasn't discussed in the interview.

Deal done... :?: :?: :?:

The way Oldham treat their Managers is appalling, there's no real shame being sacked there.

And it’s been said on many occasions now that he only joined Oldham in July and was given no players, no backing from the board etc.

“My only concern”, then raises two concerns.

In the video he explains that he’s got a very good knowledge of L1 and L2 because that’s where he’s finding players from to move to Motherwell. I don’t think that will change.

As for Oldham, others have explained, but if your owner is picking the team then there’s not much hope for any manager.

I’m hoping he’s said yes and we’re now using the weekend - SR, JMcM, directors - to work on contract offers to key players ahead of an announcement on Monday. Be great to start with a new manager plus agreements with the likes of Liam Gibson, Aaron Wildig, NKP and Ryan Cooney.

I understand that our former loanee Callum Lang from Wigan was part of the Motherwell playing squad under SR.

Ryan Cooney has been given a new contract along with Phillips at Burnley.

Would love to see both or even one of them back with us but it depends on the new manager and whether Burnley want them to go to another club to gain further experience. However being an EFL1 club should open a few more loan doors for us.

Don't be surprised or upset if Adams takes Songo and possibly Cole to Bratford. :(

Wonder if our possible new manager will try to sign PNE's Louise Moult who had a highly successful stay at Motherwell before PNE signed him. Was prolific in Motherwell Colours.

From 20mins 20 secs. High praise of SR. Seems to love playing for him. Released by PNE.

Cole and Louise playing as a front 2 could be sensational. :?: :?: :?:

I would be really disappointed in Cole if he did join up with the Brats. We have resurrected his career twice already so he shouldn't count on us doing it again if he bombs at Valley Parade.

I think it's worth remembering with Stockton that it's not just some magic fairy dust in the home dressing room of the Mazuma that gets him playing.

Both his spells here he's been under managers that he's responded well to and use him in a way that suits him really well.

Adams has gotten more out of him by making the team overall more productive and better attacking wise, but he uses him in a similar way to Bentley - that focal point to hold up the ball and bring others into play.

I think this is what Bentley wanted Oliver to be, which is why that signing never properly worked out.

A lot will ultimately depend on if the new manager wants to use him and thinks he can get the best out of him in that way too.

just hope Mr Robinson isn't a tinkerer from game to game, Derek basically picked a formation and then signed 2 players for every position.

Assuming that SR is the new manager then he will be the 3rd manager born across the Irish Sea who we have had in recent years as manager.

Jim Harvey.....Sammy Mc......and now possibly Stephen Robinson.

If he does as good a job for us as the two above then he'll be fine.... :D

If you are going to report a post, please don't quote it here, that just makes the clear up more difficult.

Having watched it all now he does come across really well and he can talk nearly as much as Jimbo

The comparisons are scary averaging 4000 crows and Motherwell were the only team not to have their own training ground.

For some reason I thought Motherwell were a decent side club but obviously not.

Fair play to the guy for going to the board and saying you know what I don't think it's working and you need to find someone else, how many managers would have held out got sacked and pocketed the payout.

I am sure whoever is appointed to the post of manager will find it a poisoned chalice with half the team gone! I am sure Sam and Carlos will be sold and Songo’o and Diagouraga plus Stockton will go to Bradford. We might even find Letheren has gone too. I think DA has stuffed us!

Seen a lot of these comments recently and I think it’s about time we move on from the Derek situation and look forward to a bright future with the new manager. If/when Derek poaches some of our out-of-contract players, then is the time to be frustrated. But right now, we’re in the best position we’ve ever been and get to build almost from scratch to start League One!

The players which derek might take with him might not fit into the new managers system anyway. The new guy might not want to play 2 holding midfielders and one target man up top.

Sounds like Robinson is used to having to rebuild a team even within a season so there is no need to panic.

If Stockton goes but is replaced by a pacy 20 goal a season striker I'm sure people will soon get over him leaving.

Disagree. Derek has left us in an excellent position. We're a League One club, so more income. We're also far more attractive to prospective managers. Yes, there is a massive rebuilding to be done but that would probably be the case anyway if we're going to try and stay in League One.

Also, if the worst happens and we're relegated, we still get parachute payments for a couple of seasons.

If we'd missed out on promotion, Derek had gone to Bradford and taken his pick of our players, THEN he'd have stuffed us. As it is, this is a great opportunity. There will be lots of good players being released, in particular as clubs try to balance the books post COVID-19. If it is Robinson, he'll probably be looking to Scotland too, what available players are there?

Get the right guy in and quickly, I won't be worried.

So exactly the opposite of what Derek Adam's tactics have been?

I wonder how he would have coped with your advice in his lughole all match?

I wonder how the players would have coped with you and others telling them to keep possession and get it up the field into the opposition half ? :?

"I just want to go to a club where I'll enjoy my football"

He has a lot of respect for Stephen Robinson and obviously his family are settled in the North West, so it could be a good move as long as he's fully fit after 19 months out of the game.

The Motherwell Fans Forum certainly rate LM BUT say he hasn't played for 18 months and reckon that it would be a gamble if a club took him on. Some reckon he's Championship quality and if he returned to Scotland would be chased by some of the more wealthy Premiership clubs. However his injury problems seem to be of concern.

The previous owner was Simon Corney not Abdallah Lemsagam when Stephen Robinson took over. When he took over there was a transfer embargo in which it didn’t help his cause. He only managed to bring in a handful of players and was not given a fair chance of building around it. Yes Lemsagam interferes with managers team affairs & sacks managers for fun but Simon Corney allowed managers to get on with the job. At the time Oldham were fighting relegation and with a transfer embargo they thought it was better to bring John Sheridan back to stay up in league one. Hopefully Stephen Robinson can step upto the Mark and keep us in league one.
