O’Sullivan announces his own departure.
Down to 11 players.
I can see Mellor and Gibson being the exact same.

SR is going to have his work cut out to build a squad to compete in EFL1 if the progress to date isn't improved OR have we signed players but can't announce due to their current contractual arrangements.

Stop panicking ... Players come and go

Some players want more money, some aren`t good enough for higher level and some just want a new challenge - that`s the way football is year in year out

The new manager will have 22 / 23 players in place for the new season don`t worry about that

To date we've got 9 confirmed players that leaves circa 13 new players to be signed up assuming SR wants a squad of 22.

That' number of newbies means that SR has a lot to do to get 13 players capable of EFL1 standards.

Would SR have released Hendrie if he didn't think either Mellor or Gibson , or both , were staying ?

It's very disappointing that O'Sullivan has left, but have a bit of faith in SR! Pre-season is still a couple of weeks away, and the coaching staff will be working very hard to make sure that they ultimately get the right players in, and not just rush through signings in a panic.

SPOILER: Do not read on if would like to have the anticipation of new transfers - this post may leak a few

Currently we have:

Letheren
Da Silva Mendes
Mellor
Lavelle
Toums
Jones (loan)
Wildig
Gnahoua
McDonald - signed today - enjoyed a good 1st season at Walsall but poor last season, main weakness is consistency (along with their whole team in fairness! SR has said he’s liked the look of him for a while!)
Price
CMG
Stockton

We have agreed deals with Gibson and Cooney, the latter of whom had renewed his contract at Burnley so it must be a THIRD loan spell! We have also apparently signed Ryan Delaney (ex Bolton defender) and Tyler Magloire (pacy centre half on loan from Blackburn). It also seems that we are in the fight for the loan signing of Rangers’ teenager Josh McPake, who impressed on loan at Harrogate last term.

Looking at the players we’ve signed so far, Gnahoua is 28, McDonald 24, Jones 20 - add to this Gibson (24), Cooney (21), and possibly McPake (19), it looks like a really exciting side with a great mix of youth & experience. Gnahoua and McDonald may be inconsistent, however they are both in the right age window to still have time to improve under the stewardship of SR.

and from what I read on Twitter there is another Goalkeeper signed which takes us to 17 players, possible 18 with the Rangers lad we will do well to get him though if Donny are looking to sign him as well.

Forgot to mention that! Excluding McPake and including the keeper, that’s 17, so McPake doesn’t sound a done deal then.

Hope you are correct with the above news about signings.

Would be interesting to find out where you get your info from. :?: :?: :?:

Obviously your contacts are spot on....sometimes.

Ryan Delaney signs on.....

1 down, 3 to go! SR confirming on Radio Lancs that he’s got plenty of unannounced deals done, and says he wants a minimum of 2 per position. Also talking about bringing the academy more integrated with the first team - 4/5 younger lads fighting with at least 18 first teamers.

Never thought we would have got anything but a loan deal for Ryan Cooney. Always thought he was at least top of D3 standard. Brilliant news.

I think that we are now on 17 players which includes the winger from Bolton and the young loanee centre back from Blackburn.

Hopefully we can bring in the lad from Rangers on loan which would take us up to 18 which I recall is the figure that SR wants. Still feel we need a couple more, 1 in as an enforcer in midfield and another striker. but SR has worked bloody miracles to say he's only been in the job 5 minutes.

Looks likely now that Magloire won’t be joining unless Lavelle is moving on, we’ve got 3 proper centre halves now, so that’s 16 players. We’ve already got a keeper signed up, so that takes it to the 17 that we have contracted according to O’Carroll.

Another left back may be needed - Delaney has played there before but then it only leaves Sam and O’Connor at CB.

Agree with RR, we are lacking a defensive midfielder and a second option up top. I do wonder whether O’Connor might be our DM, and we might still be pursuing Magloire to fill the centre back void - this would also allow Delaney to cover LB if need be.

Long-story short, we’ve got a lot of versatile players hence a lot of permutations that I’m sure SR is considering!

Maybe Mellor is our defensive midfielder to fill the role thanks to Yan leaving for pastures new. Still to be confirmed that he's joined Adams at Bratford. Last minute hitch and could be off elsewhere... :?: :?: :?:

Come on back Yan....you know you want to have Sunday's off....

I think Delaney being able to play left back is potentially one of those spurious Wikipedia sentences because Transfermarkt has him playing a couple of games there when he was 19 or something. I'm 99% certain he's been signed to play centre back for us. We'll need another left back as cover/competition for Gibson.

O'Connor had an excellent spell at right back last season - had a great game against us at VP and scored. Given we have Cooney and Mellor signed up though, it looks like he'll be centre back. I'd feel confident if he did need to cover though. Maybe defensive midfield might be a possibility too?

Four centre backs isn't extreme. It's pretty standard (two players per position), and we only ended up with three last season because Bakare left. Even then, we still had Songo'o as 'fourth choice'.

Magloire could still be on the cards, although then we'd have four centre backs who all would be pushing for a start presumably, as I can't see Blackburn sending him on loan to sit on the bench. Might be tricky - last season our fourth choice was Bakare then Songo'o, so a youth player and a defensive midfielder.
