I'm probably going to get lynched here but am I the only person that can't get excited about England anymore? maybe I am just getting old and have mellowed with old age but for me 2006 was still better/more exciting. I guess if you ask my 8 year old in 25 years time he will probably tell you Euro 2020/21 was the best tournament ever.

Maybe after all the failure in previous years I don't want to get my hopes ups and worry we are heading for an anticlimax because we will get beat Italy as I seem to be sat in the we still haven't played anyone decent camp.

It might also be that I watch very little Prem league football now so don't really have a connection with the current generation/team.

No doubt you deserved to win but we definitely played our part and I'm so proud of our team and nation for getting as far as we did. I don't think there's any real doubt that it was a penalty, definitely contact in the box and there's this strange thing that a penalty can't be given unless you go down so had to go down if he felt contact. We lost the game last night and though I don't have an ounce of English blood in me, as a resident of this amazing country I have a team I can support in the final. Bring it home!

Hello P/T Indie,

don't worry it's not just you who feels like the above. Your post sums up my feelings to a tee! Maybe it's an age thing and we are getting more cynical about it all as we get older. I used to be very passionate about England and went to quite a few games back in the day, but I sat there watching it last night not too fussed if we'd lost. I'd have been very happy for Denmark if they'd won. I hope and pray that the old passion returns on Sunday and deep down I think it will against one of the best footballing nations in the world.

Thank god Morecambe still floats my boat :D

Sunday's game v Italy will be our biggest test (and theirs) to date.

I just hope that it's played in the right way but I'm worried that Italy may revert to it's usual style of niggles and feigning injury.

A lot will depend of the referee and his interpretation of the rules of the game.

If we can keep 11 players on the pitch then we might get the result we all want.... :?: :?: :?:

Oh good it's not just me although I was even quite laid back when we went to Wembley :o until the last 10mins.

I see lots of comments on twitter saying the same thing about how people are so much more interested/passionate about their club

Yes , agreed , given the choice of Morecambe being promoted or England winning Euro 2020 I would choose Morecambe being promoted. But now Morecambe have been promoted I want England to win !

Hopefully we do it on Sunday. Will give the nation a massive boost and should also give domestic football a real shot in the arm.

We need to take advantage of what's been a hugely enjoyable tournament with a renewed sales push for season tickets starting Monday. Undoubtedly great value for money and we'll never have a better opportunity to bring new fans to the club.

UTS.

And also would be a great opportunity for the online shop to actually be stocked and finished off! Not everyone can just turn up to the stadium - we can’t miss out on the hype!

Totally inept performance

Penalties were attrocious

What’s with all the stuttering and dancing for the pens just hit the bloody thing … forwards embarrassed by a centre half who just smashed it

Enjoyed the extended summer, fecked up big style tonight facing a top team, feel sorry for the young guys.
Subs were shit, as were the penalties, such a shame but dont care too much.
Rashford might get a bit of stick tomorrow

COYS is more important

I feel so sorry for you that you feel that way, I love my club and winning at Wembley was one of the best days of my life but I could not so easily just say club over country every time. I absolutely love my country and have had an amazing summer watching them. If that was us last night in the final my heart would be bursting with pride. I genuinely feel sorry for you that you can just shrug it off like that.

Beaten on the night by a far more technically gifted team who know the black arts of the game.

We played very well for the first 45 but after that seemed lost and unsure how to combat the footballing skills of the Italian team.

For once we didn't use our subs until it was too late. To expect them to take the pressure of the penalties when they had hardly had a kick prior to the penalties was the only mistake that our manager made on the night.

However still proud of getting to the final and time to move on to the World Cup which isn't far off.

The 3-4-3 caught Italy out, and that's where the early goal came from. After about 20 mins though I thought Italy got a grip, started taking control of the ball and never really looked back.

Thought Southgate was right to administer a shape change and you could argue it should have come earlier, but even with an extra man in midfield England could never really take control back of the ball. England are fine technically up front and in defence. Midfield was a solid unit, but ultimately we saw the limitations here against Italy. I think Bellingham needs to be bedded into the side ahead of the World Cup to try and get a bit more control of the ball in midfield.

On club vs country - club wins hands down every time. I love supporting England and was very excited for last night and gutted it ended in defeat, but it's not quite the same! I felt far more able to cope with the disappointment of it after such an unbelievable Morecambe season.

Hoping that when England fly over in late 2022 for the World Cup, we're still a League One club!

I'm another 100% club first, country second.

Given a choice of Morecambe's win at Wembley & England's loss, or Morecambe had lost but England won, I definitely would have gone for events as they happened.

Over the whole game, I thought Italy were slightly the better. But England are a young team that will keep improving. I've enjoyed the tournament but now the important stuff begins... Workington v Morecambe tomorrow!

I still couldn't get excited last night because I never believed we would win it  although once we took took the lead for a moment I was thinking maybe it was coming home.

However then the Italians got going and as expected once we came up against a top team we started to struggle. Southagte has gone all Derek Adams (England even had 29% possession)and while it worked to some extent once you meet the top teams you can't keep playing like that as we would have found out under DA in league 1.

It's a shame the world cup is only 1 year away I think with another 2 years this group would have developed a lot more.
