Two home games played ..

3772 and 4004 not a bad start especially against two teams who won't bring the most away fans

Lots of teams will bring 1000 + so we should get some very healthy crowds this season

Great crowds. With 2300+ season tickets and some big away crowds a temporary stand over the the Berlin Wall would surely be a cost effective investment?

I don't think we got over 4000 when it was free admission did we?

Lots of new faces but its more pleasing seeing some familiar ones returning.

If you look at tonight....

2300 season tickets

650 from Rotherham

That means just over 1000 pay on night

Excellent effort

1. We don’t own the land behind the Berlin Wall.
2. The directors, notably Graham, have said that we don’t want to fill the ground with away fans to make it like a home game for them.

At the Q&A, I recall this temporary stand idea being dismissed.

Having said that, there definitely seems to be plans to develop the away end a bit more - sounds like a potential long-term plan if anything.

We'll only continue getting regular good gates if we play entertaining football and keep knocking the goals in. Many punters only want to see goals....at the right end!

Developing the away end is the only way at present to increase the attendances when the likes of Sheff. Weds , Sunderland arrive. Until something is sorted with Tyson Fury about the land down the car wash side then that is in limbo , thanks PMG !!

I heard at the Kendal pre season game that the retaining wall at the rear of the away end was to be demolished and a new wall built that would result in the removal of the pavement. Not sure if such a move will require planning permission or not but it would certainly help in creating more space for away fans to use the catering under their stand.

Definitely need more seats for home fans. Probably only about 1000 currently and almost all are season tickets. If we could add 1000 seats over the North Terrace then the away blocks of the main stand could be used by home fans. Probably not practical but if we stay in L1 it's something we should be working towards.

I have heard that the wall is being moved behind the away end, so the capacity of the stand could be increased.

That would require a lot of structural work just to extend the stand at a cost that would only benefit when we play the bigger teams. The seating area for away fans is under used so the club need to encourage away fans to use that area but how that is achieved is a problem..... :?: :?: :?:

Have you ever been behind there? I is a crush waiting to happen. Fine for a couple of hundred fans but not for sell out crowds.

Yes Keith I have been behind the away stand and have expressed concern at the time.

I suggest you read my original post and you will realise that the wall that faces the road is the one that is I understand to be demolished and a new wall to the edge of the road is to replace it leaving no pavement unlike it is at the moment.

This will create extra space behind the stand and is doing so make that area a lot more safe on match days especially when we get larger away following. I would also suggest that one of the new portacabins is situated at that end but to the right of the stand as one faces it to provide an additional refreshment area. This may already have been done or is in the process of being installed.

The cost of extending the stand for away fans and the extra ground works need is in my opinion too expensive for the number of times we can confidently fill the current stand let alone one that has been extended.

I may be wrong, but I think the plan is just to move the wall and pavement to increase the area on the concourse, so the club can sell around 300 more tickets. It was originally supposed to hold 1400 fans but has been limited to 1100 due to the lack of space at the back.

ideally if grants are still available we could do making away terrace all seater, freeing up more seats in A&B sections for our own fans.

That’s a great idea, and if we had a decent terrace where the Berlin Wall is I would expect the club to maybe look for the grant and make the change. The issue for me is it would reduce the capacity of the away end by half unfortunately.
Given the visits of Sheff Weds, Charlton, Sunderland, Portsmouth, Plymouth, Ipswich along with local derbies with Wigan, Bolton, Fleetwood, Accy as well as Donny, Oxford and Crewe who will bring a few, it could hinder how many we allow in, and therefore inhibit potential gate earnings.

With MK Dons, Gillingham, Burton, Cheltenham, Lincoln, Cambridge, Wimbledon and Wycombe, a seated away end makes sense.
However, If Tyson earns 30 million for his nest series of fights he could build a triple decker cantilever on the Berlin Wall and name it after himself and we could all relax!! :D

I didn't attend the recent fans forum. Did anyone ask Rod or Graham whether any dialogue had taken place between the club and Tyson with regards to the 3G pitches and the land on the car wash side ?

Does Fury own more than just the community block and the pitches?

He also owns the land right behind the Berlin Wall, so we couldn’t even put a temp stand on there as I understand it.
