Instead of people putting the guy down after every game

Maybe we should support him … might even give him some more confidence

Personally I think he’s a decent player and the gaffer his the one who gave him the captaincy and he’s the one person who sees the players every day

Agreed - I think people are chucking their toys out of the pram because he's not Lavelle.

He's by no means been perfect, but he's got some very good skills as a defender - those two last ditch tackles were brilliant.

The main issue looks to be concentration and maintaining discipline, which I do believe are things that can be worked on. Hopefully that will happen over the next few weeks.

Singling out one player for the defensive problems is wrong but the modern fan likes to be reactionary. They sound like that plonker Goldbridge or the numpty brigade on Arsenal TV.

It appears we are a slightly older and a little more measured in our criticism of Antony on here. On facecloth there was an over reaction. While he didn’t have his best game, he was at fault for the second but Phillips was at fault for the first and Kyle for the third, it seemed to be the second goal that everyone was interested in!!
Witch hunts and reinforcing the same blinkered opinion doesn’t make it right, and there a few online who will not hear anyone disagree with them, and frankly, that is childish and ridiculous.
We don’t have Sam anymore, so rely on what we have until Jan, and trust SR to replace with better if we get the chance.
Personally, in the Lincoln game Antony for me was the best player on the park and rightly won MOM, but that’s just me!

I mentioned that about the Lincoln game too Freez

But it’s strange when O Connor as a good game no one mentions it

From what I've seen, he looks a decent enough League 1 centre back. He's the obvious target however and a lot will depend on how Robinson handles the next few games. Confidence is so important and if O'Connor's begins to be undermined, he is only likely to make more errors, leading to more problems. I'm not sure things would be massively better with Lavelle (who I am, nonetheless, a big fan of) partially because the standard of attacking players is better in this division and they tend to capitalise on mistakes and flaws far more effectively. The issue seems to be more to do with defending as a team, which this group is understandably still acclimatising to.

You could also blame Stockton for the second as he was slow to react to their defender making himself available for the short throwing and letting him get the cross in. At the end of the day it's a team effort and we can all criticise. On a different note would you rather watch the exciting football that we are being treated to, albeit not the right results sometimes, or watch the football the national team churned out against the mighty Andorra or Hungary. I know which i would choose :)

.....or some of the dire football under DA.....for me it's the attacking style of SR every time despite some results and decisions going against us....however must acknowledge that we are where we are thanks to DA..... :)

It's infuriating how many points we have given away with late goals etc.

Ipswich 2 points
Wimbledon 1 point
Wycombe 1 point

Add 4 points to our tally and things look pretty good.

The football this season has been superb to watch and I think Stephen will sort out the defence sooner rather than later.

Interesting that against Burton we made more than 100 passes more than them which never happened last season although Derek has earned his place in Shrimps folklore with his achievement.

As a rule, the games to date have been somewhere between watchable and massively entertaining. I'd vote for that every day. That's not to detract from what happened last season, which was a truly remarkable achievement.

Dire football? Didn't we have the most shots on goal and highest XG in the league? Didn't we go up? Your posts are borderline crazy these days

Derek had us well-organised whilst also allowing individuals to have freedom in the attacking third and while on the counter. Under Stephen, some of the recent games have been painful to watch due to the disastrous defensive displays and the concern that Cole won’t keep up his scoring record this season. Thankfully Stephen’s style is very expansive and entertaining but I feel the novelty factor of high-scoring games is starting to wear off.

For the record, I’m fully behind Stephen and I’m sure he can turn it around - I’m just making an observation here.

On O’Connor, he’s been doing fine. There’s always going to be questions aimed at the captain when the defence looks lacking in organisation but bizarrely I don’t actually think Ant or Scott have made many mistakes.

Our Skipper is in the League 1 team of the week after his fine performance on Saturday. If you are going to rip him to bits when he has a bad game, praise him when he deserves it.

To be fair I did just that in another post because he did play very well along with Ayunga on Saturday.

Let's hope that he continues to perform like that from now on.
