Conditions were awful, started well first half but Newport finished the better team. Second half again we started well both teams had chances. Wildig came on and scored with his first touch. Got to say that they brought Ellison on and he missed a couple of good chances.

We scraped a win plus a bonus of a clean sheet

Hopefully this can turn our season around

CARLISLE at home in the 2nd round would be decent

And WHAT ABOUT THE CROWD FIGURE - just over 1800 I believe.
Why is that - after our 3 and 4 thousand plus gates?

Crowd looked more like 2,800 to me. Problem with the WiFi at turnstiles...

Wasn't pretty and i think Newport deserved something out of the game. We were chasing shadows at times but we defended bravely although it was last ditch. Good goal and it shows how much we have missed a player like Azza. Alfie and Callum are cracking footballers but Adam is a puzzle still. Some great saves from Jokull but still suspect when the ball is in the air but the conditions weren't great. Much better from the fans aswell, much louder and much more positivity.

It tends to be me doing the live updates during the match, but if I'm at the game itself, I don't have time (or a computer!). I should be home tomorrow but due to gale force winds, I've changed my sailing to Wednesday (I don't get sick, but the missus does!) so no updates on Tuesday either. No game next Saturday, but normal service returning after that.

As for the game today, first-half we had the strong wind behind us, but if anything, it hindered us, with way too many misplaced passes and the ball flying off the pitch. At half-time, I thought there was only one team going to win... ...and it wasn't Morecambe! Newport created more clear-cut chances despite playing in to the gale.

Second-half they started with a few testing long shots, something we never did when we had the wind behind us. But we started to come in to it and then get on top, with some decent passing and we created a few half chances. Then up popped Wildig with his first touch of the game.

The pantomime villain came on and had a couple of decent chances which he thankfully missed. The script had been written, but it wasn't followed.

Second Round of the FA Cup. It still doesn't feel that long ago that we were non-League and the FA Cup was so exciting, hoping for a big League club. Now, we are the 'big League club' and I'd like us to draw a non-League club away from home! Away at Buxton would be great. A team we played many times in the past and possibly a good choice to be on TV, so a cash boost too.

I thought the first 20mins we did are normal going all out but then run out of steam. Halftime i thought we had defended comfortably and our cbs were doing better against league 2 players.

Second half they had far to many chances and against a leaue one side we would have been punished no idea how kev missed the header. Good to see a midfielder getting in the box and scoring something we haven't done so much this year.

Despite the clean sheet I'm still not convinced about the defence.

We really need to improve our set pieces they were awful again today.

Is this the first time we've reached the second round in consecutive seasons? A scrappy game in dire weather, but a win is a win. Hard fought and at times we looked poor, battled hard to gain the victory. Was nice to see Kev pass the ball slowly back to our keeper late on! The last time we will see him on our football pitch i think! On to the next round and a nice home draw, COYS

the game for me shown the difference with L2 and L1 and how far weve come.

Newport a very good L2 team vs us Morecambe a good attacking L1 team with a leaky defence what can be fixed.

Boy we rode our luck in the first 45.

They had at least 5 chances to score and narrowly missed on 4 with shots that missed the post by inches.

Our goalkeeper without doubt kept us in the game and in fact actually won it for us late on.

Far from being a convincing performance but thought our midfield (all lonees) did themselves proud and for the first 15 minutes or so took the game to Newport but once again the tight marking of Cole resulted in stalemate.

Second 45 we improved despite being against the wind but our goalkeeper has to improve his distribution and it's not the first time this season where his ball out has gone straight out of play.

Have to give a big thank you to Kevin who fluffed his final attempt on goal and that was probably the last time we'll see the legend in a competitive match at our stadium. Thanks for the memories Kevin..... :D

Once again for me our central partnership was not totally convincing and on another day we could have been on the wrong end of the scoreline.

BUT a win is a win and puts a halt to our current run of poor results.

Not sure who I'd like in the next round but a game at home would be welcome. Barrow anybody..... :?: :?: :?:

He didn't say he thought it was our best performance. He said it was his favourite. I think it was the grit and determination he enjoyed and the fact that all the players gave their all. He alluded to areas of our play which have yet to improve.

Think jones is getting better with the more game time he gets
Unfortunately I cannot give the same view on Arthur, I know he’s just back from a lay off,
but don’t think he’s done much all season

I suspect (and hope) that when our striker(s) recover that we will see a dual partnership up top.

I saw enough of Obika in preseason at Workington to see that he will be a real threat particularly in the air.

A front 3 of Cole, Jonah and Obika has the makings of a very powerful forward line.

Assuming our short comings elsewhere our resolved in January then the rest of the season should be a welcome change from that of late.

Not sure of our new recruitment guru was at the game but if he was then he hopefully saw the areas that we need to strengthen.

yes, Jones is a good talker on the pitch and is always looking over to Robinson for instructions, does as he’s told.

and Arthur i think Robinson likes him because he does as he’s told too, like pressing and getting back helping out with the defending.

Arthur started the season ok, had a really good run but then I feel has dropped off in form a little recently, even pre-injury. Hopefully he can get back to his best soon.

I wasn't at the game yesterday unfortunately, but looking at it through highlights and a few of the match stats I think it's encouraging that despite the number of attempts Newport had, they were all good shots from outside the box. Nothing where I really though 'ooh he should have buried that.' Somewhat similar to Crewe.

I think Stockton's chance was probably better than most, if not all, of their chances. I think we had more shots on target too.

yes Callum's cross was perfect for Aaron to run onto, IMO he is better than Alfie.

not impressed by Arthur so far, but he is better than Wesley

It takes too long for Arthur to sort his feet out. By the time he has it under control he has been closed down or tackled. He looks like he could be coached in to a better player and he does have a decent work ethic although O'Carroll was on at him in the first half. He does fit the system more than Wes but he still has some way to go.
