Read their fans forum assessment of the game and they were less than complimentary about our club which suggests to me that they fully expected to 'walk it' but found out like a few other teams that we no longer are a push over despite starting the game badly.

For all their possession and neat passing moves that created very little to trouble our defense and the truth is that we probably shaded it in terms of actual goal threat with us hitting the bar in the second 45 and Cole going very close to another spectacular goal. A few suggested that they want Cole to head their front line after January, so impressed with his performance were they.

Managed to grab a few moments pre match with both Sam and father Ben and as at the time I still feel even more so now that Sam didn't want to go to Charlton.

Good to see 4 of our legends on stage reminiscing of their time with us and as Grimmy said to a number of us before the game that once you leave Morecambe you tend to go down hill in your footballing career which was certainly true in each of their individual cases.

I wish they had advertised it. I would have loved to have seen that. :(

I saw on the Bradford forum one of their fans suggested they might be able to pick up Cole for about £250,000. Talk about deluded ! Derek is not flavour of the month round Bradford at the moment.

Add another zero is a good starting point, his current scoring rate will put him on 32 when we play Sunderland at home

Really!! but we are lead to believe he wanted a move if you are correct it reinforces my idea that we should have said deadline day was too late and waited until Januray so we had time to get a replacement.

He loved it at Morecambe for sure, and one day he may return - but he was looking for a new challenge and to progress, stating this publicly in interviews. We offered him a new deal to stay, but he opted not to sign it. Sorry if this does not fit your narrative.

I'm sure Charlton quadrupling his pay sweetened the deal for him to move - and nobody will begrudge him that opportunity in a short career. We gave him a chance when few others would, and he repaid that 10-fold.... then we got a fee for him and bought some chip vans :)

I'm looking forward to the next Lavelle off the rank turning out for the Shrimps!

Not suggesting that he didn't want A MOVE. We all knew he did. But our conversation of last night with his father and agent Ben at which others witnessed then a move to Charlton was and is not ideal despite an increase in his basic salary but he had little choice in the matter.....but don't let the facts get in the way.... ;)

Fantastic game to watch. The League 1 experience is beyond what i expected, the quality of football and players on show is a joy to watch. The atmosphere is brilliant and to have over 4000 on a Champions League Tuesday night is a credit to everyone involved.

I thought they played some brilliant stuff without ever over running us but how hard did our lads have to work to get back in to it? I thought they would have been knackered but some still had the energy to form a quartet and take twitter by storm!

Agree completely, seeing Connor Washington, Chris Gunter and Lee in the flesh and the similar quality from other sides week in week out in this division really does bring the step up home.
The difference between this division and League Two is a wider gap than I thought.
Enjoyable though.

League 1 is probably as strong now as it’s ever been. Chock full of mahoosive clubs with resources to match. Brought it home to me when Charlton brought on Kirk as a late sub. Cost them half a million in the summer and on a four year contract to boot. How are we supposed to compete? But somehow we just about are doing by and large.

Totally agree with the comments about difference in class but we are competing and it’s fantastic to see

I think we are slowly becoming a decent team but it doesn’t happen over night

Must admit we have been in league 1 for eighteen games and I am loving every minute of it (even when we lose games their is always something to take from it most of the time)

Onwards and upwards

Bring on the Mk Dons and see where ride number 19 will take us
