Buxton - FA Cup

Anyone else worried about this game next week

Really think it`s going to be much harder than some fans think !!!

With our fragile defence and possible loss of Stockton i would not be shocked if it ends a draw

I think it all depends on Stockton's fitness. If he plays he should carry us to victory. If he isnt playing I think the game will be a struggle. Several of the summer signings are not good enough to grace a League 1 side but could be playing at their level against Buxton. Wouldn't be surprised with a draw but wouldn't be totally shocked if they turn us over.

There have always been cup upsets and we've been on both ends of them over the years. However I do believe there aren't as many shocks nowadays as there used to be. This is as big a game for both teams as getting into the third round and a possible tie against a premiership club is the holy grail at our level. I think playing away in front of the cameras with all the neutrals wanting Buxton to win will keep us focussed. If we do a professional job on them we will win.

I'm not sure anyone thinks it will be easy! And after yesterday, we know the players & management won't be complacent.

I agree. Even on the basics of being full time professionals, should mean we're quicker and fitter than they are. Focus, concentrate (our Achilles heel at the moment!) and don't allow ourselves to become frustrated or drawn in to a dog-fight with them and we *SHOULD* be good enough. But if we don't do a professional job, then Buxton could enjoy a League One scalp.

If we can keep their wing men quiet then it will go some way to us getting an acceptable result because you can guarantee that they will load our box with cross after cross and as their manager no doubt saw yesterday that we are not that good at defending balls from the wing into our danger area.

If the weather turns nasty next week and leading up to the game the game may be in doubt but if it goes ahead I worry that the plastic pitch will be a leveller.

Certainly worried about our approach and attitude on the day which has to be professional. This will be one hell of an experience for some of our loanees and those we signed who at times want to hide.

Not looking forward to this game to be honest.

Whilst I totally accept that SR has to treat this game as he would a League One game, and of course I am sure he will, the difference in steps between the two teams is enormous. The club itself are approaching the game in a very professional manner as I believe that they are going on Friday and staying overnight close to Buxton. Whilst a number of posters feel that the 3G pitch is a leveller, I actually believe that better players(MFC) are more technically suited to its demands than lesser players. I feel it would be more of a test if we playing on a poor, boggy, uneven pitch with rumbustious defenders attempting to put of forwards over the perimeter fence into the crowd. 3G takes the physicality out of the game, which as always been a big part of any giant killing! If anything I believe the 3G is certainly in our favour and I am also quite convinced the team management has ensured that we have trained on similar surfaces, and it may well be that we are going over on Friday so as we can train on the actual surface. Buxton will certainly give their best effort, but we need to remember that Buxton are nowhere near the quality of a Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United or Ipswich Town. It’s time to stay calm and believe

And the team regularly train on 3G / 4G pitches at Lancaster University.

Totally agree, as do the club. I think it was Diarmuid who said that the pitch is not a disadvantage because it is perfect and that means nowhere to hide, no pretending the ball took a bobble off the pitch. I don't think that will be our problem and certainly can't be used as an excuse if we do slip-up.

Let's hope so....as this forum could explode if we don't get the positive result we ALL want.

There is always at least one Cup upset....just hope it isn't us as we have been on the right side of cup upsets before and know from our experience that Buxton will give it their all just as we did in ties past.
