How many police have we to put one in every shop to challenge the non mask wearers?redrobo wrote:I just can't understand why anybody would risk getting Omicron because they refuse to have a jab on principal. Those with a medical reason should in my opinion be made to wear some kind of identity so that they are not challenged as to why they have not been jabbed.
Everybody should be forced to have a Covid Passport as proof of having had the jab.
I would even suggest that it becomes law that in shops of any description that everybody has to prove they have been jabbed....otherwise they are refused entry.
I was in Sainsbury the other week and somebody not wearing a face mask was challenged as to why not and the abuse the challenger received was incredible.
Omicron is spreading like wildfire amongst the population and a lock down is a distinct possibility in early January if not before if the virus spreads at the rate it is at the moment.
Such action will be very unpopular but public safety has to be first and foremost.

Absolutely appalled by these comments.
Have we not learned anything from the last year or two ?. masks do not make a difference, Jabs should personal choice, some people cannot have the vacs so how that going to do there shopping, we are not living in a police state, not yet.redrobo wrote:I just can't understand why anybody would risk getting Omicron because they refuse to have a jab on principal. Jabs are personal choice, they shouldn't be forced upon anyone.
There has been only one death from the Omicron variant, granted it is spreading but it isn't killing vasts amount of people.
The best way to deal with the virus, is to get on with our lives - how many people have died from suicide because they can't see loved ones? How many people have died from not being able to see a GP or attend a hospital appointment? The economy will not survive another lockdown.
Plus - we as a football club don't want restrictions or lockdown. We missed out on the chelsea gate receipts, we don't want to miss out on Spurs.

Well, quite clearly *some people* haven't learned anything in the last year or two...
Masks protect other people from infected people who are wearing them.
Go outside on a cold, dry day and breathe out.
See the 'mist' of water droplets coming from your mouth.
Now put a mask on and repeat.
Do you produce the same amount of mist?
No. Obviously not.
The virus spreads on water droplets. If you reduce the distance that the droplets travel from an infected person's mouth or nose, then a non-infected person must be closer in order to inhale infected water droplets. There are lots of studies backing this up.
Wearing a mask is not to protect the wearer, it is altruistic.

If half as many people are admitted to hospital due to Omicron as other variants, but three times as many people are infected because it spreads quicker, then the number of people in hospital goes up.
How many people have died from suicide?
In fact, in England & Wales, there were fewer suicides in 2020 than in 2019.

The way to make sure we don't get another lockdown (and miss the Spurs game!) is vaccinations, masks, hands & social distancing... just like it has been throughout.

Maybe they would treat the issue with more respect if a member of their family suffered and died from Covid.
All Zippy in particular can do is mock the seriousness of the issue....bet his or her attitude would change if he or his loved ones became a victim of Covid due to certain sections of the community who refuse to wear a face mask or follow the Government guidelines.....irrespective of the colour of their politics.

RR , not mocking the seriousness of the issue , just the far out Poundland Mein Kampf elements within your post which i hope you reflect are a bit OTT . Whilst it might be an expectation that everyone will toe the line out of a sense of altruism , many people (NOT including me) have genuine reservations about the vaccine and it is a matter of personal choice that is respected. Instead we see coercion & the use of physiological warfare on the population (aka nudge units) by the state, rather than applied education to improve uptake. Mandatory vaccines must be resisted and I would not attend any UK recreational venue that requires production of a vaccine passport despite having access to one . Its noted that the government seem to have worked hard to undermine its own message by past behaviours on COVID and most of the Govt health advisors got infected early on so good role models are not easy to find in the governing classes (excepting the Queen of course )
As for the spectacle in Sainsbury , I will use it to illustrate a point .
Depending on others to manage your own risk , is not always going to deliver the required result although in some instances it does (aviation for example) .
At the end of the day the interventionist in Sainsbury (or even yourself) could have managed the spectacle with the Non -Mask wearing individual by a) shopping online and eliminating the personal risk and encounter completely b) Giving him a wide berth and minimizing personal risk to a lower level . Wading in like a Karen was always likely to backfire on any intervention to someone with strong feelings on the subject.
In closing (forever on this subject) , a thank you to the football club and team members for making available the facilities for my 3 jabs , I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to have accessed these prophylactic doses, which we recognise are more certain in mitigation than prevention but nonetheless are effective .

Yes, there are people who can't have the vaccine, for valid, non made-up, reasons. All the more reason for everyone who can have the vaccine to have theirs to protect others. The anti-vaxxers don't seem to have cottoned on to the fact that everyone who has had the vaccine already are keeping the anti-vaxxers safe too.
So you don't wear a mask and you don't have a vaccine, and you end up in hospital. Not only are you taking up resources purely through your own stupidity, you're blocking a bed from an accident victim, or a cancer sufferer. There's a finite number of beds and medical staff, and mitigating the spread of covid is keeping those beds open for people who need them.
But you might have to show an app to get into the pub? Boo f**king hoo.
