Police at the Fleetwood game

Police at the Fleetwood game

Can't understand why there was such a heavy Police presence after the game yesterday. The number of Police lining the road away from the Stadium was heavier than I've witnessed for some time...if ever at the Mazuma Stadium.

I know that Fleetwood have a group of idiots who created havoc at Accrington causing a lot of damage but the number of Police seemed way over the top. But it would appear that they had been alerted to some potential trouble that may have arisen post match.

Not sure if our club has to pay the police being there but the number was excessive.

Police presence was always going to be huge. Groups of Fleetwood fans with knifes chased Morecambe fans last month and they completely ransacked Accrington. Add to this the bad press that we’ve got after the events at Sunderland (despite it likely being Newcastle fans who travelled and got into the away end and caused the trouble).

We saw against Halifax (?) at home a few years ago how many police turn up when there’s something going on at a football game. It’ll have cost the club a fair amount and it’s the last thing the club needs.

I can understand it after Fleetwood away and our fans had to be escorted due to Fleetwood thugs trying to fight them. I heard that some of our fans did actually get jumped.

They weren't well behaved yesterday locally from what I hear. Thankfully only 400 or so made the trip.

Seriously?
Police aware of a large amount of trouble and damage a couple of weeks ago in Accrington. They respond accordingly and as a result, there [apparently] wasn't any trouble. Surely, that gets filed under 'a good thing'?

It's us bleeding-heart-lefties who are supposed to complain about too much policing, not you Tories! ;)

I *think* I'm right in saying, the club only pay for ;) police inside the ground. Outside is a public order issue, so their responsibility. Happy to be corrected though?

So how did that work out then?

A small group of 14 year old Morecambe lads ( nothing to do with football ) were set upon by fleetwood fans heading back through the housing estates to the railway station . I believe a number were detained afterwards , what a horrible bunch! :(

last time we played them here in L2 they caused a lot of bother, and beaten up one of our Stewards who was on his own.

As with you Keith, happy to be corrected, but I thought it was anywhere on club land, which would include Christie Way, (I think).

The game was a category A game so I guess the policing levels were out of the clubs hands. Probably went up a notch or 2 after their behavior in Accrington.
