Looks like Bradford fans aren't too keen on ugly football when it doesn't bring success. Mid-table League Two with ugly football or a relegation battle in League One, trying to play decent football? Oh, hang on...

That wasn't what I asked was it Keith? Winning games is the most important thing, anybody who says different is probably called Keith. I'm sure nobody at Wembley thought it was a shit day because we didn't play lovely football. Derek found a way to win games and it was magic.

We all know that if you had your way we would still be struggling at the bottom of L2 in front of 1000 fans watching 43 year old Kevin Ellison run up and down the wing. We have so much to thank Derek and his ugly football for. Legend.

I know you find reading difficult, especially when it goes against your deeply ingrained beliefs, but I'd already written...

Derek got us up, for which we are eternally grateful. He then left. Time for you to get over it, he chose to leave and stay in League Two rather than stay with us in League One.

It was always a terrible match. It was clear from his time with us that he is a manager that needs time to implement his ideas but he will get results with not so attractive football.

Seems they weren't prepared to wait.

I'm sure in true Derek fashion he will now join another league 2 team and get his revenge soon enough.

Interesting all the comments about style of football.

Wonder how things would have gone had promotion season been in front of crowds?!

Aberdeen job became available at the weekend. His hometown and he played for them. Could work out very nicely for him. Big pay-off at Bradford then straight in to a job that is probably a better match for him?

Don't like to see anybody get the sack but he walked out on us and left us struggling to put a squad together mind you it was Robbo who determined the retained list let's not forget.

I'm sure DA will be back somewhere and the Aberdeen job would be the perfect fit and he'd probably do well for them. With having retained his house in Inverness it seems like it was meant to be.

Wish him well although his brand of football wasn't to my liking but it served its purpose.

According to local newspaper in Bradford, we received a large compensation fee, so not too bad.

I hope it works out well for him. Bradford on the other hand, why don't they give managers six month contracts? They'd save a fortune in compensation fees!

Sad for Adams, as I'm sure I'm with all Shrimps fans in being eternally grateful to him for last season and promotion.

But also, he did leave us in the lurch straight after promotion to chase a new project at Bradford. So from that perspective, I can't help but laugh a bit at the situation. Grass isn't always greener etc.

I don't think this is entirely accurate - press releases at the time Adams appointment at Bradford indicated that it was known by all parties that Derek was going to leave at the end of the season regardless of the result:

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Graham Howse and Rod Taylor, Morecambe’s co-chairmen, for their understanding and cooperation over the past few days.

“They were aware of our interest in Derek for some time, though we mutually agreed to converse on the matter following their play-off campaign - which resulted in a remarkable and memorable moment for Morecambe Football Club."

The club were thankful to Bradford that they waited until after Wembley in order to finalise it - but discussions had already taken place.

Following promotion, the club did attempt to change Dereks mind and to 'come and have a crack at League One with us' (Graham Howse on a Radio Lancs interview or Q&A - cant remember which), even suggesting to him that an early dismissal at Bradford would be a distinct possibility if things didn't go well due to the instability at the Bantams - but he still opted to leave.

I also find it quite funny when people refer to "Derek's style of football" as if it was torture to watch and we must be happy that we had to do it from the comfort of our homes. We endured years of absolute dross under Jim Bentley by comparison!

Also - I'd happily take a Derek-style-win this weekend against Shrewsbury!!

Mental isn't it? Derek gets called out for winning ugly but we were told to be happy with 1 or 2 good wins a season under Jim.

Can't blame Derek for leaving and taking the Bradford job. Bigger club, training ground and a budget in place to progress. He said that he completed his job at Morecambe and there were no plans in place to develop. He had the ego to take on the BC fans but they have the biggest ego in the FL and he fell short in winning them over. They will continue to go from one shit show to another. It is a shame for him but I think we all knew how it would go.

I'm sure i read somewhere that they no longer have a training ground to call home and use a school's facility to train on. Very much like used to do at Heysham High.

Sad for DA but it was always going to end this way. i'm surprised he lasted this long at the biggest team in league 2...or is that Carlisle? Eternally grateful for his gaining promotion for us and putting the locals interest in the club up.
Don't worry be happy!
