Referees in League 1

Referees in League 1

When we were promoted to League 1 I naively thought the standard of football and the standard of refereeing would be much better. Well, the football is certainly better with many good players and exciting sides but the refereeing is not better. Indeed with a few exceptions the refereeing has been truly abysmal. In the last two games clear fouls in the penalty area have been ignored by two incredibly incompetent officials. League 1 referees are biased in favour of the bigger teams and teams like Morecambe suffer week in and week out at the hands of these officials. Surely it is time for a new approach to the recruitment of referees to produce fair, unbiased officials where all teams are playing on a level playing field and there is no feeling that some referees are not just incompetent but favouring some teams. I have resisted using the word corrupt but.......you do wonder!

Fulwood

I agree wholeheartedly I have had the same feeling this season, that teams like little old Morecambe aren’t attractive enough for league football
You only need to see Derek’s booking against Bolton, Evett pushed Derek, then went to the ref and the ref booked Derek
Yesterday the ball broke from their corner with Connolly and freestone chasing the loose ball Freestone was never going to win the race so put his arm against him and started pushing him away from the ball he had no intention of playing the ball but the ref just played on

To me, that was one of the most infuriating 'non-decisions' as Freestone was clearly looking at Connolly before he played the man. Both the ref & linesman had a clear, unobstructed view, yet ignored what should have been a free-kick and a yellow card.

So how did that work out then?
