Carson to leave for St Mirran?

Not good news but not unexpected.

However I did think that his reduction in travel time from Barnard Castle would have been in our favour but Judas has by the sounds of it been able to persuade him otherwise.

With Martin Foyle , who recruited Carson , joining Judas at St Mirren that seems nailed on.

I'm more worried about Bennett and and one or 2 others going there.

Connolly signed 18 months till Summer 2023 so they can't poach him.

Disappointed if this is the case, particularly if we remain in L1. However, if their offer is far better, you can't blame him - particularly at his age when he may only have a few seasons left as a pro.

Derek will have a lot of work do over the summer, but will be hopefully already identifying targets.

As well as a big game for ourselves this week, Paris St Mirren have a massive game of their own. A win vs St Johnstone, the side immediately below them in the table, would drastically improve their chances of not falling foul of relegation via a play-off.

If they are relegated, or conversely if we are, that will have a big impact on both teams in terms of who we are able to recruit - and for us who we are able to retain. Unless they make him an offer too good to refuse, I'm not sure that Trevor Carson would be interested in plying his trade in the Scottish Championship - effectively non-league football - if he harbors any ambition of getting back into the Northern Ireland set-up.

Hopefully Stephen Robinson is sacked, grade A cake-taker. 'Mon the Super J's!

The warning lights maybe should have flashed about Judas when you look at his record at Oldham which was a pretty similar poor win % rather like he achieved here.

His win %'s as a manager are as follows :-

Oldham 21.2 %
Motherwell 42.0 %
Morecambe 25.0 %
St Mirren 11.1 %

People , myself included , probably put that down to Oldham being a difficult club to manage.

Not really surprising that SR is very much interested in Carson given the history they have and how much he rates him.

Listening to Carson speak, I've gotten the feeling (and I think a few others have) that he would quite like to stay or at least find a club in the north of England to be closer to his family. But he's contracted to 2023 at Dundee Utd hence the fee that St Mirren are supposedly willing to pay for him - might be the case that while DA rates him as a keeper, he doesn't feel that it quite warrants a fee given our resources. St Mirren, meanwhile, paid £100k for SR and apparently have him on big money, so it's not surprising they have money for a fee. Ultimately, we don't know exactly how much say Carson himself may have in the matter.

I'm not overly concerned about Bennett to St Mirren. I didn't get the feeling that he was SR's number one choice, and he's not played in Scotland before aside from a loan spell about a decade ago. I think he suits the DA mould quite well so wouldn't be surprised to see him offered a contract here.

I'd agree, with hindsight. At the time, that's exactly what I thought, many others have struggled to manage Oldham and work with their owners. Plus, he talks a good job. His promises to be 'in it for the long term' and that he'd be 'developing the youth [and] selling players in order to build the club' all sounded really good. In reality, it was BS. Ironic that the first Morecambe manager to manage us at our highest level, will go down in history as one of our biggest failures.

At least if this is decided early, Derek has plenty of time to identify players that he wants.

I think that's a good point. Reserve football next season, or at best, another loan spell somewhere, or go to a manager who rates him and possibly even a pay rise?

There’s no justification for this story other than supposition, and some of it wrong.

For example, Martin Foyle didn’t recruit Trevor, as the man himself made clear. On the Shrimps Trust podcast he made clear that because he was second fiddle at Dundee United and his family was now living in Barnard Castle, the time away from the family was too much and he pushed for a loan move. This included him contacting us.

St Mirren is a three hour drive, which means overnight stays or longer spells away from the family. We’re an hour away.

In my view it’ll be about Dundee United and money, but if we can make it attractive enough then I can see him pushing for a move - either another loan with a recall or a permanent move if we stump up a small fee.

We may be wiser tomorrow. Aaron Wildig said in his interview that the players out of contract will be told about contract offers on Monday.

I only posted what was in the Daily Post in Scotland.

I also made a valid argument in an original post about the travelling time and that he was very much a family man and was now able to take his daughter to school on most mornings, something that he was unable to do at Dundee and would find difficult at Paisley near Glasgow.

He spoke very highly of DA so fingers and toes crossed that DA and our BoD can work more magic and get him to sign or agree a further loan move.

Yeah, I agree with black morse. Good luck to the man. But he definitely played a big part in us staying up.
It's that quality of player we need throughout the side to get us to being at least a safe League 1 side.
