I could be wrong (AGAIN I hear the masses shout  ) but I thought that players already released by their clubs could sign for another as well as those long term no contract players.

Could be a lot of players will have no contract as the season starts as predictions are that circa 1000 players will be seeking a new contract somewhere with the vast majority having to accept significant wage cuts or no contract offer going into the new season.

With regard to the transfer window date, you can complete the paperwork, however the authorities don’t accept lodging of those cumene’s till the window opens, that includes anybody who wasn’t on contract at the close of the previous window. Hope that explains it, in simple terms the FA, EPL and EFL won’t
announce any signings until after the window opens

And despite what the above has posted Crewe have announced on their official site with photo showing the signing of a released Cheltenham midfield player.

I accept that clubs will make announcements, Morecambe have in the past, however the paperwork cannot be ratified and registration accepted until the window opens, a technicality I agree, but there have been a few slips twixt cup and lip!
