To Keith's despair it looks like the main man stays! How anyone would want him to leave is beyond me.

Great news, lets hope for a Friday announcement to put us out of our misery. :D

Surely if Cole was signing a new contract to stay with us we would have heard something by now? Am I wrong to assume no news from our club indicates he is on his way?

Don't forget he is still contracted to us for another year. If no one comes for him he'll stay and can sign an extension at any time though presumably if he extends now the upgrade in wages would take immediate effect from beginning of July.

You managed to skip past the rest of my post.

If Cole leaving meant we were able to sign [say] four players in other positions that were better than last season's, then we would be stronger as a team. Ideally, someone would win the lottery and give Derek £750k to spend on players AND we keep 'goal-king-Cole'.

We may be stronger without him, if the cash received means we can invest elsewhere.

Sounds as though the club are putting pressure on Cole to agree to his new deal which would make him the highest wage earning player at the club at the moment.

Let's hope that Cole will put pen to paper asap and not hold out for a move elsewhere which according to DA no bids or expressions of definite interest have been made yet.

What does Cole do?

Sign an improved contract with us that takes him to his early thirties and probably his best days behind him.

Hold out for a summer transfer and if nothing comes, sign his deal or let his current deal run down and move as a free agent in the summer. Needs another good season to do the latter.

Wait till Jan and sign a pre contract with a non English team.

I hope he is getting the right guidance but I also hope the club do what is best for MFC.

You can't blame him for keeping his options open. That said, if this drags on, its more likely that Adams will build a team without him. If then the big move doesn't materialise, he may find himself out of the starting 11 and running down his contract. Sign now and you could still be the main man with a wage he'd probably only dream of a couple a years ago.

And I hope that guidance includes his psychological well being.

He's never set the world alight elsewhere, and he is happy at Morecambe. For many players, finding the right balance emotionally & physically impacts upon form. He could run his contract down and move for free, but he only scored 21 goals in 163 appearances at six different clubs (Tranmere & Vauxhall Motors twice) which included no goals from 12 games in Scotland, but scored 48 goals in 140 appearances with us. For some players, it is simply about being at the right club.

I was very confident he would sign a new deal, that was the rumblings on social media, but obviously not the case sadly. It looks like he is holding out for an offer coming in  I just hope something is sorted asap, so we have time to find a suitable replacement, unlike when Sam left and we got stuck with Wootton. Time will let, but I think he is off.

I agree Redshrimp

Will be interesting to see if Stockton or Obika starts against Boro and Carlisle

This would be a sign of things to come perhaps

Like everybody else at our club we all want Cole to sign the new contract BUT I for one don't have any problem with him holding out for as long as possible in this current transfer window. As long as he puts pen to paper by transfer deadline day than that is OK.

However if he doesn't sign and holds out until January or even sees out his contract he will be 6 months older at least and with clubs looking more to the signatures of 'younger' players it may not be in his best interests to hold out for a contract that may not materialize or not be equivalent wage wise to the one currently on offer at our club.

Cole should remember that his only time as a prolific goalscorer has been with our club and especially under the management of DA.

And of course Robinson, who really got him scoring, can’t deny that.

Under Judas Cole played in 40 games and scored 20 goals in all competitions.

Under DA's return Cole played 14 games and scored 6 goals in all competitions.

So his goals were nearly the same under both managers in season 2021/22.

To be perfectly honest I hadn't realized how long Judas had been with us in terms of games excluding friendlies. :o

Not sure how many he scored in DA's first stint with us v games played...

Colby Bishop looks to be joining the donkey lashers. He had almost signed for Pompey but Blackpool hijacked the deal at the last minute. I wonder who else is on the Pompey shopping list!
