Why?

With been a club in the third division and full time I can't imagine many other third division clubs doing this nowadays.

By the sound of the interviews tonight - we have the squad for the season plus maybe 2 or 3 more additions

Very worrying if this is the squad tbh, we need a couple more midfielders, a striker, and a winger imo.

It appears that, at the moment, despite having a number of players transfer listed we have not received any money offers for any of them. Thus we have no money to make strong enough offers for/to new players. From what DA says the offers are out there but have not been taken up yet.

Worrying? Yes but as Morecambe fans we should be used to worrying by now! ;)

Let's stop worrying and let's get behind the players we have and the players who are still to arrive

League 1 again next season and I for 1 am very excited about it whatever team we have

Did I hear right in that interview that Duffus is out for the whole of this coming season?

I was there last night and it was a very strong squad we have. It's only the transfer listing of some of them that gives an impression of weakness. I was particularly impressed by both keepers even though very little to do , the new centre half is solid , Connolly looked good and was electric in the second half , Arthur came on and looked sharp with a great goal , Cole was industrious and did some good things , Liam Gibson also came on and was everywhere breaking up attacks and going forward. Also the lad on loan from Southampton had a good game.

Yes, not good for Derek, but he has to remember if he hadnt left us in the first place, we wouldnt be in this situation.

Agree with this, there were some decent displays in the second half in particular. A starting front three of Connolly-Stockton-Gnahoua should do alright.

I think if the next three signings are good then we've got a decent little squad. Guessing we'll be in for another centre back, a winger and a creative midfielder.

Rawson, AOC and another good CB is a nice little pool of players in that position, same with Connolly and Gnahoua if we can get another decent winger in. I know there are concerns about not shipping some of the players out but the only ones I think have really struggled at this level are Delaney and McDonald, and it's entirely possible that they'll both end up being fourth choice.

Looks like we'll be light on numbers in midfield, but it seems our ample right back options will be covering for that. We know that Love can play DM (was mainly playing there for Salford) and Cooney was given a go in midfield last night coming on for McLoughlin - thought he did quite well. Had a hand in Gnahoua's goal if I remember rightly. I think the priority in midfield needs to be cover/competition for Watts, don't want to be putting our entire creative burden from midfield on him.

People seem to forget the team what stayed up last season were 6th in the form table at the end, so we should of built on that!

i would of kept Toums & Bennett

i wouldn't of signed Donald Love when we already have Cooney & McLaughlin in a proposed 23 man squad.

But both are on the transfer list so IF they went who would have replaced them?

OK in hindsight seeing as both are not wanted (at the moment) elsewhere BUT there is time for someone to come in for either or even both.

It feels like a strange position to be in, in that we transfer listed such a lot of players and mentally it felt like they were all on their way out the door and we had hardly any players… the reality seems to now be that most of them will be staying and there won’t be much room for new players to come in.

It does bother me a bit that Derek has deemed such a large portion of the squad to be dispensable/not good enough, but we are stuck with them and Derek hasn’t been able to bring in many of his own players.

Without an influx of good new players, it really feels like our season could hinge on Cole Stockton staying or leaving. The division will be harder this season and if we lose Cole, I think we will be weaker overall than last season.

Wonder if DA sees Cooney in a defensive midfield position pushing a wee bit further upfield rather than at full back judging by his role last night.

I think we are already weaker than we were last season, even if Cole stays.

i reckon he could do a job on the right of midfield, he's attack minded, also tracking back helping the right-back out.

Cooney was 2nd choice RB last season and looked horribly unfit when he did feature. There is a top league 1 defender in him but he needs a big year this year. We can't get away with trying to fudge our 2nd choice RB in to a League 1 standard defensive Mid, those days are long gone.

Cooney has come back fitter and slimmer than last season already, according to staff. The warning shot of saying he could leave has apparently motivated him to prove DA wrong. As he was in the Lge2 promotion team, he was one many thought could cope at this level. However, poor diet and immature habits were holding him back. Let’s see what happens.

That’s good to hear. It felt like a real coup when we signed him permanently and it seems like he’s really not met his full potential since then.

Cooney looked pretty trim last night. Worth clarifying that he wasn't playing the Fane defensive midfield role, he was more playing in Shane McLoughlin's role with a good bit of license to get forward.

Good to hear that he has switched on and living the life he needs to. It would be a waste of a real talent if he drops through the leagues.

Interesting to see who is on the field tomorrow evening. Heard a rumour that we have paid a transfer fee for somebody - possibly the first since Jason Oswell... which even then was just a nominal fee I believe.

Didn't we pay a fee for Ayunga?

I hope your source is better than mine, 6pm came and went.

As reluctant Nicko would say on twitter, aye ;)
