Memory anyone?

Memory anyone?

Postby Freez » Fri Aug 05, 2022 3:42 pm

There is a guy on Facecloth claiming the first streaker at a football match in Britain was at Highbury when the Gooners played Man City on 23 March 1974, after a number of them gaining publicity at US sporting events that year?
I’m sure that the first streaker was actually featured on our FA Trophy run that year, but was it Bedford away, or South Shield’s in the semi? Anyone remember?

A home draw followed with Southern League champions Kettering Town – and player-manager Ron Atkinson – which saw Morecambe win the replay 2-1 at Kettering; one of their best games.

A cold, snowy day at Bedford saw Morecambe win their fourth-round tie 1-0 in a game featuring football’s first streaker.

Ok, done a bit of research, Saturday 9th March, FA Trophy Quarter Final at the Eyrie, Bedford Town 0- Morecambe 1.
Streaker (an unnamed Shrimps fan apparently) ran across the 18 yard box onto the pitch, at 0-0.
Mally Richmond (RIP) scored the goal after coming on as a sub.
Coates, Pearson, Bennett, Street, Sutton, Roberts, Baldwin, Done, Galley, Kershaw, Webber, sub Richmond.

Surely this should be publicised more? A Morecambe fan was the first UK football streaker! Must give us quite a bit of street creed surely?

Imo the two most enviable records for a football club to have - only English team never relegated, and the first UK streaker at a football match!

What other records?

Weren't we the last club to win a second replay in the FA Cup (v Lancaster City!) before penalties were brought to decide replays? And, obviously, first Japanese player to score in the FA Cup.

I think there are a couple of teams ahead of us on that one. We've played three, won three Woking[?] & Barcelona[?] are four from four from memory... [...so perhaps not!]
