Cole Stockton off to………

Fleetwood??! Alan Nixon reporting this tonight.. now that would be a kick in the teeth! :o Obviously only speculation but he’s correctly predicted a few of our transfer dealings so far this summer , time will tell.

And what does that achieve exactly?

Maybe better wages it I can’t see what else would the reason to go there.

Wasn't Nixon saying Cole to Rotherham for ages?

If there is any truth in this Cole probably won't play on Saturday

Fleetwood did sell James Hill to Bournemouth so will have some money available

IF this is true. I (and don't think I'd be the only one) would be extremely disappointed if he went there.

The only reason for Cole to go there would be for a massive wage.

I think it is a bit of mischief making in the build up to a big game. Pilley and has lad will have tipped off Nixon and he will tweet it as if he is ITK.

Nixon said we were signing Scott Quiqley from Stockport... that didn't happen, like many others he's predicted and got wrong.

Like most Journo's, he'll write anything for a few clicks.

I wonder if the contract extension is still open for Cole. Presumably he is presently playing for the same money as last year at the moment. If no one comes along before the transfer deadline he might decide to sign and increase his wage.

I think it pretty clear now that Cole will not be signing a new deal at the club and the club will be in a difficult position. It is the same position we were in with CMG and Sam and they both moved on.

I don't think Cole has looked anywhere near lasts season form and his body language is all wrong. If the money is right and Derek can replace him then maybe it's best if we do move him on.

Maybe without Cole we would play a different style.

If no offers come in I can see him running down his contract and leaving in the summer. I think clubs are put off by the fee as apart from a good 18months his past record wasn't anything to shout about. If he was on a free lots more clubs would be willing to take a chance.

Running his contract down is a big gamble. If he has a poor return this season, who will be waiting to pick him up for next season when he is 29 with only one good goal scoring season on his record? His stock is high at the moment and his earning potential probably at its peak. I just get the feeling that in his head he is already somewhere else or he thought he would be by now.

Just anywhere but Fleetwood.

On this I agree. The problem is, the longer it goes on, unresolved, the less time Derek has to bring in a replacement, unless Obika is the answer?

All this talk and rumour has got to Cole in my opinion and I suspect that he himself is unsure what the future holds.

He undoubtably would like more money and no one would blame him for that. We are told that an increase to make him the highest wage earner of any player is on the table for him to sign but understandably he is holding out for more knowing full well that other clubs are paying a lot more and not in his position as a striker.

The continued speculation from a somewhat unreliable source is only serving to increase the pressure on him and let's be honest his form this season to date has not hit the heigths or expectations of last season...yet!

The current speculation concerning Fleetwood is timed to cause as much disruption prior to the game on Saturday and if there is some truth to the rumour it will be interesting to see if Cole starts on Saturday and more importantly gets himself back onto the score sheet.

It can't have escaped Cole that in the next round of the Cup we face one of the clubs rumoured to have been (and still maybe) interested in his signature.

If the club are happy to accept a rumoured bid from Fleetwood that is less than his current market value then that is their right but a move to that lot further down the coast is for me a sideways step and like a lot of things in life is all about money which for a footballer fully aware that a career is only short is paramount.

We as fans can only wish that the situation is sorted before the end of the transfer window which assuming that Cole does go has to leave DA with time to seek a replacement although I personally think that given enough game time that Obika could come good and with a hungry Ash alongside it could be a partnership worth looking at.

Rumours will persist with us being linked to Quigley and could result in developments the closer we get to the transfer deadline. Quigley is a totally different animal that Cole in terms of play and from what I recall from his Barrow days is extremely competitive and isn't afraid to mix it with opponents defenders.

Time will tell what lies ahead but if Cole goes then we should wish him well but PLEASE...NOT to a fellow EFL1 club......

He needs to start scoring and put in some good performances starting this Saturday or no one will be coming for him. Time is rapidly running out.

Blimey, a couple of kind of middling performances from Stockton and a missed 1v1, and now for the overreaction to begin!

Absolute nonsense about his body language, did nobody notice what he did after being subbed off late on vs Stoke? Denied taking a penalty in the shootout (could be a bit of a blow to his pride) but no big sulk, he stood right on the touchline to support the players. Worked hard pressing as well.

Form and the missed chance - that kind of thing is entirely normal, especially for strikers. Goalscoring is something that is typically patchy and confidence based. You're not likely to find a player getting 20+ goals by scoring one every other game. It'll more likely be four in five games, then going goalless for three or four games etc. Hopefully a goal should help get him going confidence wise.

In terms of the Fleetwood rumour, I agree that it's very possible it could be their chairman trying to stir the pot before we play them. Either that or his agent agitating to try and get a bit of interest from more attractive clubs higher up the food chain.

For my part (and I suspect others would agree) I was in no way knocking Cole. I'm sure we all fully realise without his performances last year (and the year before) we would not be where we are now. Also fully accept that all strikers, however good, go through less good periods. All I was trying to say was that, with the transfer deadline fast approaching, Cole needs a couple of good performances if a club is going to come in with a bid near the asking price.

Whatever he decides I'm sure we wish him all the best!

If Obika is the answer I fear the question...

Could not resist, would Cole really be that desperate to be away that Fleetwood becomes more attractive proposition (having lived there for 3 or 4 years I do not see it).

Thought he would have been on Rotherham's radar to be fair.

Sideways step but if the wages are better than what we offered it's a possibility.

So they did bid for him then, but was rejected as it was not "a serious bid."
