5 games into the season

5 games into the season

We have tightened up at the back only conceding 5 goals in 5 games but at the other end we have only scored 1 goal in 5 games

The worry for me is if Stockton is sold who is going to score the goals unless we replace him with an out and out striker

Another 15 days of the window and it's certainly going to be interesting

II would have used a different word to 'interesting'....try 'scary' :?

Not seen a single match yet this season but it doesn't sound like I have missed a thing. Hopefully we can turn a corner Saturday and start scoring in time for my first game against MK.

Beating a Championship side.
Scoring 5/5 in a penalty shoot-out (never seen that before!)

Strangely, I have enjoyed most of the games, they've been absorbing & tactical. Even last night. Yes, frustrating that we're not creating enough, and missing the scraps that we do carve out (if Delaney had scored!!!) We need wins against other sides who will be in the bottom third 'mini-league', which so far, we've not done, but only Peterborough have looked a lot better than us.

So how did that work out then?

Yes, it appears Derek is building from the back but is limited with attacking options due to budget issues and Cole going AWOL. I am sure we will improve but the best case scenario now would be a deal for Cole done this week and then someone bought in before the window closes. If Cole doesn't get his move it will be interesting to see if he makes it back into the team.

Who else can score the goals? Beside Cole is not just about scoring he can hold a ball up, turn his man pull defenders out of position and prepared to go back and defend when necessary. He's a very good forward at this level. Whatever some on here think about getting a replacement it will not be easy.

Assuming that Cole leaves for pastures new, the problem that I see DA has got in finding a replacement is looking for a striker who is prepared to play the way that DA sets his teams up and has to operate very much on his own up front.

Can't see DA changing his ways so his job already difficult enough will be made even harder.

The other thing to remember is that our current owners will want some of any Cole transfer money as pay back for the amount that they have put in. Without knowing what any fee may be I can't see DA been given anything more that £50K if he is lucky and possibly considerably less.

Hard time ahead......

I've quite enjoyed the games too and feel that we aren't far away from where we need to be. If we'd been more clinical/just had a bit more luck and say drawn against Bolton and beat Fleetwood then we'd all probably be pretty happy. 'Fine lines' as they say.

I think the Cole Stockton situation is hampering us a bit and just needs to be resolved now - he isn't currently available to play (and when he has played, he's looked like his mind may be elsewhere...) yet we can't plan for life without him, because we don't know that he's definitely leaving. Once his staying/leaving is sorted - either way - I think Derek will be able to plan accordingly in terms of tactics and the team can then gel.
