Realistic Chances of Staying up.

Realistic Chances of Staying up.

Postby Aspers » Sat Oct 01, 2022 9:19 am

Far too early in the season to even think of this, however,
every year, no matter what league we are in, we are always favourites for relegation!!.
I think we are a smidge away from competing with the rest of the div for a mid table finish!!
From my position behind my laptop and watching online, a bit more luck and we'd be in a much better position than we are now..
Onwards and upwards

If we don't start winning soon we will be nailed on for relegation

Next 4 league games at HOME

Ipswich

Portsmouth

No one said it would be easy

We are a league 2 team punching above our weight. If we go down so be it. All teams get relegated at some point

Is going to be a tough season, but if we do go down at least we will still be in the Football League. After so many years of scraping to stay in the league i'm surprised at how negative people are against the current manager. Be honest we watched far worse for far longer than 11 games!

DA HAS to change his footballing beliefs and do away on his defensive tactics.

We will not win games playing so defensive as we simply can't do it....

Look at the stats, we are awful. Some of the worse football I've seen and I have watched since the early 90s.

We are bottom for a reason ... To NEGATIVE (especially at home), lack of goals (8 scored in 11 games - 4 of them were in 2 games), poor tactics

Sad too say these are all the signs of a relegation season !!!!

I will still go to games like others but feeling really down tonight

I keep hearing " punching above our league" , does that also apply to Accrington, Burton, Cheltenham and Exeter... etc.. can't use this as an excuse.

I wouldn't include Accrington in the above clique. They have a committed wealthy owner in Andy Holt who pumps in millions to keep them where they are. U23 set up, 41 paid professionals on the books and millions spent on the ground and a new training complex.

Yes they have pitifully small support but he subsidises everything. We on the other hand have had questionable ownership since 2017. It's a minor miracle we are where we are!

We aren't down yet but it's going to be the biggest miracle yet if we stop up this season!

There is no evidence for this at all. Accrington are financially living within their means according to any financial information publicly available. Andy Holt has said he is investing in the infrastructure of the Club, which is evident, but there is nothing to suggest he is subsidising the Club beyond its means.

That would make sense but for the fact that they have a squad of 41 players - which suggests that the playing side is also subsidised.

A lot of people point to Accrington as being proof that it’s possible for a small club to be sustainable and competitive in league one. There’s merit in that argument to an extent but I think we have to accept that - one way or another - they’ve got more money than us (despite having smaller crowds) and so we can’t have an expectation that we should be doing as well as them.

In their last accounts they made a loss of £43,353 which in football terms is effectively breaking even. That is not an owner pumping money into a Club. Their playing budget won't be too dissimilar to ours. How they spend it on numbers of players is down to John Coleman - dare I suggest that they are not playing mega bucks for people like Jon Obika warming the bench.

As recently as August Andy Holt said "Already our budget is miles lower than other clubs, we try to run sustainably." May: "We try to be sustainable, but we have no training ground, we have a very low budget, we’re at the back of the queue for players…".

April 2021: "Believe it or not our budget measured by the @EFL was £1.3m and it wasn’t the lowest. Was within 1% but this highlights how seriously some clubs have responded to no fans and #COVID19"

Eleven games in, either something changes, or we go down. We look like a relegation side.

0.72 goals scored per game
1.9 goals conceded per game.

Worst 'goals for' in the league
Fourth worst 'goals against' in the league.

Can't score.
Can't defend.
Can't carry on like that.

Last season, there were two really dreadful clubs, which gave us a chance of staying up, in the mini-league of relegation candidates. I look at the table this season, and we're one of the dreadful clubs. In the 'mini-league',

Shrewsbury, dreadfully defensive, one decent chance, but more bothered about a clean sheet. Draw at home.
Fleetwood, sat on a 1-0 lead rather than putting them to the sword. Draw at home
Oxford, sat back on a 1-0 lead... ended with a draw.
Milton Keynes, absolutely twonked at home to a team that I thought were better than their league position suggested, but, they were struggling before & after playing us, so clearly they aren't that good.
Bristol Rovers. A good, entertaining game and at the time, I thought a decent point against a decent side. In reality, they are also in a relegation spot, and no-one else is struggling with them, or making them look good. One point.
Forest Green. We got lucky. I thought a draw would have been a fair result. Delighted to get that first win.
FGR are likely candidates to join us in League Two next season.
Cambridge. Sat deep. Scored against the run of play. Sat deep. Conceded. Sat deep. Conceded again.
Accrington. Don't blame the sending off, it was only a matter of time. At best, we were going for a 0-0 draw.

Seven points from eight games against our fellow relegation candidates. Simply not good enough.

Accrington have sold numerous footballers for big profits over the years and the money has been reinvested by Holt in to the infrastructure of the club. Coley's bar shits all over the W&L suite which is essentially just for the money folk still. Where we let 4k people leave at 1645 without spending another penny, Coley's was bouncing after yesterdays game and has events on during the week. They also have the fan park which generates income. We have a waiting room sized bar with nowhere to stand without being bumped in to.

Accrington are miles ahead of us off the field and are a proper working class club looking after the supporters. I really think that we haven't got away from the wild boar burgers still.

Going back to the original topic, I think we have a very slim chance of staying up due to the fact the club is broken. There is a break between players and fans, from Ripleys Interview yesterday it seems there is a broken dressing room and from what Derek said there is a break between the Management and the Ownership. All this is going on whilst we try and compete in League 1. Something has to give before everybody gives up on the season and many new fans give up on the club.

But who could a better job Keith? All this from the man that was so happy to see us at the foot of L2 season in season out?

Where have I said we need to change the manager? Watch Derek's interview. He's unhappy with the current uncertainty regarding the club being up for sale. He'd have had a complete melt down when the mad Italian and skint Brazilian were fighting for ownership, with him and the players not getting paid! You always manage to gloss over that chaos.

Not at all. Stated at the time that Jim was the right man to see us through that and i stated it again when asked for a Documentary my friend made before the start of last season.

I would give our odds of staying up at 15/1.

No chance.

I just hope we are competitive in League 2, as many teams go down from L1 and struggle again.

IF (and it's a big if) Stockton has begun to buckle down as some fans were saying after yesterday's game the odds should improve but we must start getting more points very soon.
