Morecambe Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Dynel Simeu on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The defender, 20, joins the Shrimps from Premier League outfit Southampton, whom he signed for in the summer of 2021 from Chelsea for an undisclosed fee.

Since then, Simeu has enjoyed successful loans spell in League Two with both Carlisle United and Tranmere Rovers, making 17 appearances for Micky Mellon's side in the first half of this season.

A player who boasts international experience with England at youth team level, Simeu becomes the Shrimps' first signing of the January Transfer Window.

On signing for Morecambe, Dynel Simeu said:

“I’m happy to get this deal over the line and really looking forward to playing in League One for this football club.

“I’ve enjoyed two good loan spells in League Two where I learned a lot, and hope to bring this experience into my time here at Morecambe.

“This is a great Club with a fantastic fan base who I’ve heard really get behind the team, so I can’t wait to sample that and to get started here.”

Manager Derek Adams said:

"Dynel will gives us competition for places at centre-half, which is going to be really important for us at this stage of the season.

"He's done really well at League Two level with Tranmere Rovers already this season, and has a good amount of experience at EFL level already. He's powerful, good in the air, very quick and decent on the ball, and we're looking forward to him joining us here."

I would have thought a striker would be the priority.

Sounds like a good lad

Probably know Caleb Watts as well

Is that maximum loans now

Another defender so does that mean a player leaving ???

Mixed views at Tranmere, but mainly positive. Doesn't sound like he was first choice recently?

So how did that work out then?
