Oxford and Accrington both to lose tuesday night would be a bonus

Cambridge and Oxford look like they have the easier run in

The fact that Oxford play Accrington on the last day is quite a big deal.

I think we still need another six points.

We need Cheltenham to beat Oxford on Tuesday and Accrington to lose or draw with Horwich. If that happens, we're in with a great chance. Milton Keynes playing Barnsley with us playing Lincoln, we could be above them by the end of next Saturday!

Keith - Horwich Come on you are better than that.

Derek is a legend all you have to do is keep faith in him.

Great result today I know where my money is, have a few beers reset and go again.

Which town do you play in? :D

I also generally refer to "Milton Keynes" rather than "MK Dons".

As we continue with the straw-clutching championship, Lincoln playing mid-week may help us a bit too.

I think we have hit form just at the right time. I think we have got enough to keep ahead of Accy and Cambridge but we need to get ahead of Oxford and MK. Oxford have more winnable games but haven't had three points since January. Mk could lose both their matches. Next Sat us massive. Let's discount the tickets and get 5000+ shrimps fans in

Hey Keith,

Last time I checked, Still the metropolitan borough of Bolton (BL6), and tragically Greater Manchester.

Fitting that we moved into another part of the borough, as befits our name Bolton Wanderers, named after the original club name Christ church football club struggled to find a permanent or semi permanent pitch back in the 1870's even I was not around then.

Not sure what you will make of Arsenal when you play them as they hiked from South London to North London as the team you beat on Saturday commanded bigger crowds at the time and Wooolwich Arsenal could not attract a crowd.

My interest in the Premier League is so minimal, I genuinely couldn't find Arsenal's ground on a map of London!

But we're all Bolton fans on Tuesday!

If we can beat Lincoln and if Accrington lose at Bolton on Tuesday that means we are almost certain to finish above Accrington even if only on GD.

If Barnsley still have a chance of the automatics then they will most probably win at MK Dons. If Barnsley can only make the play-offs my fear is they will play a weakened team at MK. MK's final game is at Burton who are a bit Jekyll & Hyde but I think they would beat MK meaning the Dons finish on 43 points which would be below us if we win one and lose one and finish on 44.

Oxford's last 3 games are Cheltenham at home this Tuesday. Cheltenham now safe and are poor travellers and I fear this will be a win. Their last 2 games are Forest Green away and Accrington at home. We need FGR to beat them and as mentioned above we could afford Accrington winning at Oxford which they will have to do to have any chance. If they do win 1 and lose 2 that will leave them on 44 points and we would need 45 to be above them due to our poor goal difference.

Cambridge United's last 3 games are Accrington away , Burton away and a final day home game against relegated FGR. As mentioned if Bolton beat Accrington this Tuesday then we can afford them winning their last 2 games as long as we win 1 game. We need Cambridge to lose at Accy and Burton although they should beat FGR on final day. This would leave Cambridge below Morecambe provided we win one of our last 2 games.

Not mathematically certain but I think if we won our last 2 games to go onto 47 points we would look very likely to survive.

People who were labelling some games as "must win" a while back were wrong. How much better would it be if we had drawn with Plymouth instead of going for the win in the last 10 minutes.

Every game is a must win when you are in the bottom four, with ten games to go surely?
Playing Captain Hindsight now we know what we have done and still to do is all well and good. However, we could beat Lincoln and Exeter and still conceivably be relegated!
But I hope you are right.

And Keith, was it busy on the match day threads when we lost the previous four games to the ones you quote? I think you my have checked, as I have just done, and found they didn’t fit your argument :D .
There are lies, damn lies and statistics!!

Absolute madness all this. Two wins should do it, but as we all know it's conceivable that it won't be enough if other teams turn things round.

I'm still very much in two minds over Oxford. Their recent underlying numbers have improved and it sounds like they've been unlucky in some recent games. On the flip side, they haven't won since the end of January, and that was a win arguably assisted by some dodgy weather! On this run they've faced ourselves (drawn), Cambridge (lost), MK Dons (drawn) and Port Vale (drawn). It's a tough one trying to weigh up their improved performances against the psychological drain of going so long without a win.

As some have pointed out, Accrington losing at Bolton (very strong at home against weaker sides on their big pitch) then beating Cambridge could really work in our favour. Perhaps even a draw at Bolton would work nicely, it'll give them more of a glimmer of hope when they face Oxford on the final day, and we could do with them giving Oxford a proper game.

I think Barnsley should very much be up for things still this weekend against MK Dons. We know this better than anyone - momentum going into the playoffs is key! We won five of our last six in 2021, and that winning habit really served us incredibly well in the playoffs. Barnsley should aim to do the same. If they beat MK Dons and we beat Lincoln, it's in our own hands vs MK and Accy (unless they beat Bolton 8-0). Just got to keep an eye on Cambridge and Oxford - hopefully Dino, Big Dunc and little Alfie May can do us some favours!
