So what now

So what now

Postby redrobo » Sun May 07, 2023 1:47 pm

So EFL2 once again backons but with so many off field problems to resolve not sure what will happen in the coming weeks.

DA out of contract...new contract on offer... :?: :?: :?:

Who will be the owner allowing our BoD to give a manager a playing budget that will enable us to compete in EFL2.... :?: :?: :?:

Is the EFL holding things up because if they are then THEY are creating a major problem OR is it the current bidder of our club holding off until he knows what league we will be in.... :?: :?: :?:

If the current bidder is rejected by the EFL will the local consortium put a NEW bid in forcing the current owner to accept whatever he can get... :?: :?: :?:

At least 5 loanees returning to their parent clubs will need to be replaced as well as those now out of contract.

Will Cole still be an MFC player next season....for me I certainly hope so... :!: :!: :!:

An interesting close season to follow that's for sure....just hope that the club can look forward with a positive attitude and that our excellent home fan base (young and old) will return in their numbers 'cause they can be the difference....

And so a lot of off field issues to resolve BUT we as a collective can come through this minor blip and get back onto a sound footing and become a major force in EFL2....and who knows a Championship winning Trophy in the Boardroom this time next season.

Can't wait..... BUT can't go through another season of being in a relegation scrap :)

Probably our biggest off season in our history coming up

If things are not done correctly the club / team could drop again

Other clubs bigger than us have gone that way

True..BUT we have to remain positive and regard this set back as a chance to rebuild and put together a club both on and off the field capable of bouncing straight back....we are better than EFL2....

Dave Salmon was teasing some info on the iFollow feed.

Said the post-match podcast wouldn't be out until mid-day tomorrow due to some embargoed club news.

I suspect that means some of our questions may be answered then.

Massive upcoming weeks for the club, all of the above plus all the extra League 1 staff and managers we have now.
How many new L1 season ticket holders will renew?

Will Sarbjot pay this months wages now the football is over or do we get a massive parachute payment?

League 2 is a tough tough division

It will contain the likes of Wrexham, Mk Dons, Forest Green, Accrington - (possibly Bradford and Stockport as well) just to name a few

The away form must be addressed next season otherwise it will be another fight for survival

We have no idea what’s in store the next few weeks. We might hear more tomorrow from what beyond radio said today. It all depends on the ownership. Personally Derek Adams isn’t a poor league two manager for us. He got us up with a relatively small budget compared to your Bradford’s. Yes he ain’t league one material but rather have him than a manager who we don’t fully know about and we take pot luck in giving him the job. At least we know what to expect with Derek Adams whether it’s good or bad. The main thing is our ownership sorted out one way or the other. If we can retain some of the players like Gibson, Stockton Ripley even better as they would be key in league two.

I wonder if the news embargoed until Monday is informing us that Derek and/or Cole are leaving the club?

There will be lots of ins and outs like there is every season in football - probably more so this season because the team will be in a lower division

Realistically, yet another complete change in players this Summer, again! We desperately need some consistency instead of all this swapping virtually the entire team each season. I'm not optimistic at all as I expect the majority of the current squad to move on.

I think it's also inevitable that the non playing staff/management, etc., will have to be slimmed down as we seemed to take on a lot of new positions upon promotion.

As for Derek, personally I'd love him to stay but I don't think he will unless he's given cast iron guarantees from the owners as to a realistic budget for players and cast iron guarantees they'll honour it (unlike this season when promises as to finances were broken!).

Could relegation be a blessing in disguise, or a complete disaster where we tumble back down to the foot of EFL 2 in a constant scrap to retain our league status?

I guess the crux of the matter is the ownership issue. Will Sarbjot walk away following the relegation? Could that force Bond Group to reassess their valuation of the club and maybe open the door to a local owner or group of owners, who really have the interests of the club at heart.

Whatever happens the people of the Bay have shown that they will turn out in force to support the club in the right circumstances and hopefully there is reason to be optimistic about the future.

The EFL need to give Bond Group a kick up the arse and force this deal with Sarb to a conclusion one way or another. If they are serious about their responsibility to protect clubs and the league then they can’t allow this to drag on any longer.

Some club awards ie Young Player have been announced on Twitter so don't think the embargoed news relates to that..

I suspect it is of a more serious nature and could be about DA OR the sale of OUR club....or even both :?: :?: :?:

Calm down Neil , Dave Salmon has just been on facecloth to say the embargoed news was the POTY awards .

I think there is a reasonable chance of keeping Ripley. He has clearly loved being at Morecambe, despite relegation, and playing week-in-week-out is something he hasn't had previously. Keepers are an unusual breed and don't tend to move like outfield players.

Stockton, I would be utterly amazed if he's with us next season. He wanted away after we offered him a contract to be the highest paid player while we were a League One club and he refused it, so he won't be accepting a League Two salary. Despite his crap attitude, he'll have decent offers from elsewhere. Just imagine if he'd applied himself all season and not just when he needed to be back in the shop window?

Derek? I would expect the club will offer him a contract extension/new contract. Will he accept it? I guess it will depend upon assurances, if any can be given, regarding budget etc, and other offers that may come his way. I wouldn't be surprised if he left, I'd be happy if he stayed. I just hope the decision is made quickly, so whoever is in charge has a decent period of time to plan.

I'm expecting a mid-table League Two side next season, and I am hoping it isn't another relegation battle. I think relegation to National League is far more likely than promotion back to League One. Unless, of course, the sale of the club goes through soon and a decent wedge of cash becomes available.

I don't think anyone can predict we're will finish because we've no idea who the manger and budget in gonna be but let's be honest if it isn't sold than its a relegation battle.

I'd like to think several players would stay and sign new contracts. After all, realistically, most are L2 standard anyway (Ripley excepted of course) rather than L1 so are pretty unlikely to get offers from L1 clubs. So for them, it's stay with us in L2 or go to another L2 club.

Can't see any of the loan players coming back as they'll just get loaned out to L1 or championship next season.

Of course, some may have only come to Morecambe on low pay for L1 status/experience, and will leave to get higher wages from other L2 clubs, after all, we're still likely to be lower end of the L2 table for wages budgets, certainly not one of the highest spending!

I really worry that we'll only have a handful of current players back in Summer and that we'll have to start from scratch yet again to build a squad, probably scratting around for cheaper players from L2 and hope maybe to pick up a couple of gems from National League. Basically, back to where we were for all those years pre Derek.

As for Derek, I'd love for him to stay and show what he can do with a sensible budget, but I do think he'll be off somewhere else after the ownership, lack of money and broken promises he's suffered over this last year.

For league position, I'd be delighted if we stay outside the relegation zone. Our promotion season was a fluke after all, and we can't realistically expect to get back to L1 any time soon, even if new owners come in with shed loads of money - as we keep seeing with other "moneybag" clubs, there's more to success than money!

Given a half decent budget (doesn't have to be anything silly), I think there's a good chance that Derek makes us into at least a competitive League Two side.

However, if this ownership nonsense continues to drag on then even if it is resolved and Derek gets a decent budget, it's very possible he'll be behind most teams recruitment wise and will have catching up to do. Makes it a much tougher job.

There are 2/3 weeks now when players will jet off on their holidays. We really need this sorting within that timeframe so we don't drop too far behind rivals in the transfer window. Let's hope there can be some positive movement soon.

Really not that deep, was made very clear within a couple of hours of airing that the 'embargoed news' was just the player of the season award. They've done a cracking job!
