O/T An interesting stat from Lincoln

Taken from the Lincoln forum 'Morcombe got relegated and we finished 11th but we scored exactly the same number of goals as each other in the season so that tells us that it was our excellent defence that we have to thank for us not following the same fate as them and that we have to improve our number of goals scored column next season as well as maintaining our standards that we have set in defence.'

We seem to have put our relegation down to not scoring enough goals and blaming Cole for that BUT our defence for me was a shambles at times and is for me of more significance than a lack of goals.

And our retain list consists of a majority of defenders on 2 year contacts.....2 of whom shouldn't have been given a 2 year deal....Love and Melbourne. :o

I agree Redrobo that a couple of our remaining 6 players are not good enough but I still don't understand why we released everybody else. Yes, money is tight but if we are to continue as a football club we will need to replace those players and some of the players released will not have been on huge money. It's a puzzle!

Have to agree about releasing all the players. Surely we could afford to have kept goalkeeper Andre do Silva if only as a back up 'keeper who under the continued guidance of Baz has a good future ahead of him. :?: :?: :?:

Of the others only Gibbo and possibly Ash Hunter would have been given a new contract for me. It could well be that assurances have been given to some players that a contract will be offered as and when we get the sale sorted but in the meantime if they get an offer elsewhere then think about it.

We don't know what conditions have been placed on DA and the retained list. It could well be that he is confident that he can rebuild a competitive team for the new season.

I for one wouldn't put it past him to relish a unique challenge for a club that has rescued him twice from the managers no mans land.

I think he's done far more for us than we've done for him

Sometimes by pure accident 2 parties become the perfect fit and despite DA's concerns about finances I'd like to think that he has found a home for the foreseeable future despite my concerns about style.

He says it as he sees it; no bullshit and false promises and that in my book is all credit to the man.

Interesting point about our defence not being good enough.

I honestly didn’t think that Lincoln were a better team than us when we played them. Same with Cheltenham and various other teams who ended up finishing in comfortable mid table positions. It frustrated me because it felt like we were at least as good as these teams and we ended up relegated, but perhaps our defence was nowhere near the standard it needed to be.

It was the lack of appetite to score goals and win that were our downfall.

I think we needed one or two players in the January window. We also missed Kieron Phillips once he was injured. Relegation will cost us more than Carlos returning on loan in the January window.
