o/t James Wakefield's Charity Cycle

Postby Keith » Fri Jun 02, 2023 12:21 pm

James Wakefield is cycling from Land's End to John O' Groats raising money for 'Sport Parkinsons', which was set up by fellow Morecambe FC Director, Charlie Appleyard.

He's doing the cycle with his friend, Dave Nelson, who is raising money for another charity, 'Finley's Touch'.

James said:

"Sport Parkinson’s (http://www.sportparkinsons.com) is leading the charge for Parkinson's Disease (PD) battlers to “keep healthy and strong until a cure comes along" by staging events throughout the year to encourage people of all abilities, experience and PD progression to try new sports and exercise regimes, to find the courage to continue or re-start sports they may have given up, all in a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment."

If anyone feels they'd like to support his efforts and the charity...

It's a horrible disease. Anything that can help people to live a better life with it, should be supported.

Yesterday...

"...truly stunning ride from Aviemore via Inverness and Dingwall and then up to Altnaharra. The less said about the gloomy ride into the wind without lights for the last hour the better!"

Thanks to all for the interest and support. We finished on schedule last night, and I’m now home and looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight! So far we’ve raised over £5,500 for the two charities, pretty evenly split, which is way more than we expected.

Thanks again!

A final note to say cheers to everyone, we raised a grand total of £5,980 for the two charities; way more than we'd expected or hoped for. Thanks to all for the support and donations!

Excellent achievement. I know, having supported people who are living with Parkinson's Disease, that remaining positive and having something enjoyable to focus upon is a massive challenge, so any support in this manner is really worthwhile and beneficial.
