First summer signing? Charlie Brown

First summer signing? Charlie Brown

23 years of age, striker, released from Cheltenham after playing second fiddle to Alfie May. Was in Chelsea’s youth setup and was previously at Ipswich and high-flying (as was) MK Dons. Optimistic.

Is our first signing, or 'wishful thinking'?

So how did that work out then?

I've now seen the link in the other thread...

Sounds hopeful.

Not the most prolific of strikers BUT DA has this knack of getting the best out of players who have not been a success at other clubs.

Would be excellent if we could sign Songo and Edwards once again.

Charlie Brown has been described as an enigma on the Chelts fans forum.

Not watched him play for a few years now, but as a Chelsea fan I watched him play in the youth team quite regularly. He was very decent at that level I'd even say he was a standout player in that team, and was really highly rated by Chelsea, it's surprising to me that he seems to have struggled to make the step up, maybe just needs to find the right club, I'd be quite happy if he signs for Morecambe.

Thanks for that , nice to have an independent assessment from somebody who has seen him play.

Derek is very good at getting the best out of players so I am looking forward to watching his progress.

I'm Chelsea because my dad brain washed me as a child but I've always lived in lancaster and have been following Morecambe since the Hull City game in 91 so since NPL days. Obviously not being able to attend the Chelsea v Morecambe FA Cup game was a bit of a sickener haha, still I got to appear as guest on the Chelsea Fancast before the game so I'll always have that. Lol.

Don't know anything about him, but sounds like the sort of player we should be going after. Young, still developing, good pedigree, who didn't quite get going in L1. A good season with us and he could be back in L1 soon, so motivation to do well.

I think 1st July more likely for any news.

If you sign someone officially in June then you have to pay them their June salary. If you wait till July to sign a released player then his previous club have to pay them their June salary.

I think most contracts are signed officially beginning on 1st July? But they'll often be announced earlier. Eg, Oxford just announced Ruben Rodrigues (great signing that) today as officially joining on the 1st July:

Haven't got a clue but wouldn't be surprised.

All will be revealed come the 28th when we resume pre season training on our training ground at the College.

Possibly we used to always give 3/4 of the academy lads contracts back in the Jim days. Don't think many progressed and most left after 1 season.

Assuming Derek wants at least 22 players, I can see him settling for say 16 genuine first teamers plus youth.
Personally I would prefer this and getting a good spine of the team with the mobey we have.
It's a gamble if we end up with injuries
