O/T City or United

O/T City or United

Postby redrobo » Mon Jun 12, 2023 12:42 pm

Both Manchester clubs have now done the treble but for which of them was it a bigger achievement.

City's brilliant Euro Championship team was loaded with overseas stars whist United in their win only had 4 overseas players on the field that day.

Both clubs deserve their place in history and was fully deserved but for which club was it a bigger achievement.... :?: :?: :?:

City IMHO

Probably the best club side in the world at present and also the best footballing club side produced in the UK.

Beat United in the FA Cup final just to make sure of their place in history.

Pep is a superb manager , City have scored over 1,000 goals in his 7 years as City Manager.

Unlikely to happen but I would love to see him as England manager.

Man City for me, if you keep on Sport alone and not allow any political comments they have come through some perilous years..

Living in the shadow of the Manchester clubs City fans are much more humble and many know how bad they had it in the recent past whereas Utd fans believe they are entitled.

Plus always difficult to find too many Utd fans this far North :D

I think to be fair, both were predictable, given their financial advantages during their respective eras, top managers, and how well run and stable they both were/are.

United very nearly won the quadruple in 1999. Well done Aston Villa for at last stopping that.

Personally, I don't really care. The premier league has largely been predictable since its formation. Maybe only once or twice has a team won that wasn't favourites or second favourites at the start of the campaign.

I find it hillarious that people are still calling this debate.

The Manchester United side of '99 were not bankrolled anywhere like city's team is, indeed the core of their side came from their 'class of '92 side. They also were not under 115 FA charges for financial corruption!
That should end the argument.

As a manager Pep did well with Barcelona, I could manage Bayern Munich and win trophies and at man city he has been lucky to have billions to spend - and it took him almost ten years to get there. I would like to see him manage a more challenging team and judge him then. If anyone questions Ferguson managerial tenure at Manchester United then they should see what he won at Aberdeen - it was quite incredible.

The United squad was far superior to the city one. If the 2 teams met today and they were filly fit and played there 1st 11 United would win. Just my opinion...

I don’t really care. Money has ruined the premier league. They should play the two Man. City v Newcastle games next season in Qatar to make the teams feel at home!

Both achieved these goals via extreme wealth , albeit united did have s lot of home grown talent at the time, and their wealth was generated by their popularity.

Man city are a rich mans plaything andc they will dominate football until the owner gets bored, or our government fall out with him,

I believe that Manchester Utd have actually outspent City since Peps tenure began, so while I agree that money is spoiling all of football, looking at Chelsea spending a mint, and Man U, it doesn’t ensure success.

For me it's all about the money. In a couple of years Newcastle will be challenging for honours. Where would Morecambe be now if we'd had billions pumped into the club in the last 15 years. Eventually it will be all about the European elite with all other clubs (the ones who have managed to survive) begging for handouts.

From most feedback it seems that the majority agree that it's all about money not only at both City and United, but Premiership football in general. Totally agree .....BUT....wouldn't mind a few extra pennies in our coffers to enable our manager to build a team capable of more than just holding their own.

Anyone got a few million they don't need to own our club...... :?: :?: :?:

I can't remember when I last watched any Premier League game on TV. I've a vague recollection of going to the pub to watch a Burnley game, when they were last in the Premier League, as my wife is a Burnley fan, so it was an excuse to go out for a pint. I really dislike Newcastle, so I'm going to be even less interested in the Premier League (if possible!) once Saudi Arabia United are battling it out with Man City for the next twenty years.

“Far superior” is a joke, that’s just nostalgia kicking in.

Ultimately City got more points in the league, won the Champions League much more convincingly and won a derby in the FA Cup, with one of their signings scoring unheard amounts of goals in the process.

Hate both teams to be honest.

None of the two. Celtic are the only British team to win all 3 domestic trophies and the European cup in the same year 1967. All done with a team made up entirely of Scot’s. Please don’t say the Scottish game is not equal it was so very much was in those days but agree it is substandard now.
