Good signing from Carlisle United-eh

Senior spent nearly a decade with Oldham Athletic, but was released at the age of 15 for being too small.[3] He later described it was the worst day of his life.[3] He began playing non-league football around Greater Manchester, initially with Sunday league team Hough End.[3] At the age of 16 he was playing for Maine Road and working two days a week in an engineering and design company.[3] He then made 68 appearances in all competitions for F.C. United of Manchester,[4] including 58 league appearances,[5] before moving to Curzon Ashton in February 2019,[6] for whom he made ten league appearances in National League North.[5]

In May 2019 he signed a 12-month contract with Premier League club Burnley, with the option of a further year, with the intention that he would initially play with their under-23 team.[3][7][8]

He was released by Burnley at the end of the 2019–20 season.[9] He later signed for Altrincham.[10] He signed for Carlisle United in January 2022.[11]

On 30 May 2023, after Carlisle won promotion to League One, Carlisle manager Paul Simpson announced that Senior would be released once his contract expired. One key reason was the emergence of fellow right back Jack Ellis.[12]

The current owners decided to make some money available near the end of May to ensure there was an actual playing budget. They touted it as the "highest league 2 budget Morecambe have ever had", which sounds good on paper but is still likely one of the lowest in the league and I suspect significantly lower than what we had in league 1.

The only signing where we have possibly paid a transfer fee is Songo'o where the BBC sports page had and 'undisclosed fee'. Other signing might be only relatively low wages as well.

By my reckoning we now have 12 players plus academy. With the possibility of Bedeau and Mayor being transferred for reasonable fees. We need a few more signings plus loans now. Definitely need someone to score the goals unless Cammy and Charlie are going to step up quite a bit.

Probably less than half of what Robinson spent

Yes, I doubt any of these signings are coming in on big money. I think there's some potential though. Some will improve and progress under Derek. Others might not set the world on fire but perhaps have the attitude to do a job in the squad.

Hopefully we can still bring in 3-4 useful players, plus maximise the loan market with some quality young talent from the Championship and L1. Probably a few academy players will also get a contact, then that's your squad.

I don't think we've paid anything for Songo'o as he was listed on Bradford's released list this summer.

The Carlisle fans are saying he was outstanding in the last few games of the season including the victories over Stockport and Bradford City.

Along with Songo he sounds like our most promising signing so far.

Chris Stokes and Charlie Brown look pretty good signings. Stokes especially with his experience throughout the country.

After the transfer flurry at the beginning of the week we have a nice quiet end. ;)

Is our low budget affecting our lack of new players a week into pre season. The 2 lads signed for up front don't have a history of scoring goals in fact quite the opposite.

Worrying when teams like Harrogate have signed 7 to date.

Big fan of the Senior signing, he really stood out for Carlisle when I was watching the playoffs. Stokes looks a solid option and guessing he's been signed as a CB for a bit more experience there rather than at LB given Melbourne's hamstring struggles. Songo'o under Derek is always good news, hopefully we can get a tune out of Brown, and I'm interested to see if we're able to crack Smith. Sounds like he had a very promising start to his career before fading over the past few years.
