O/T Fleetwood Town owner Pilley “facing prison”

I tend to disagree. Murdering rapists get life usually. Pilley will probably do 6-7 years in reality. There is no doubt he and his cronies have ruined many lives over the years in his pursuit of money at all costs. Some of the case files have been horrendous and they’ve been at it for many years. Many decent folk suckered in and destroyed!

I think the sentence is fair enough. Financial crime isn't victimless and his frauds/scams have ruined peoples' lives.

The problem is that murderers/rapists sentences are too low, not that fraudsters sentences are too high.

I agree with KenH but the problem with long sentences is the lack of prison space.

A banned driver, who was drunk, doing 57mph in a 20mph zone, on the wrong side of the road, who hit an Uber and killed the passenger, then laughed and when asked about the crash by police at the scene, said, "to be honest, it's their problem," was sentenced to eight years in November of last year.

Pilley is a horrible man, but I struggle to see that his crime is more than 50% worse than a drunk, speeding, disqualified driver, who takes a life.

So how did that work out then?

If you read the Judges summing up it is clear that Pilley really wound him up with his attitude throughout the proceedings. (Not recommended with a senior Judge). The trial also took 8 months and cost the tax payer many millions. The estimated fraud benefit to Pilley was 15 million and as well as small businesses being ruined also involved charitable organisations etc' being stung. They really were unscrupulous. Add to that the fact that Pilley has previously served prison time for a fraud offence so he hasn't exactly learnt his lesson, the judge mentioned this in his summing up.

Even so 13 years was a bit of an eyebrow raiser! I thought it would be 10 years but wouldn't have been surprised if it had been less.

The moral of the story is don't adopt a Billy Big Bollocks clever attitude with a Judge because they will nearly always have the last laugh.

The drink driver ruined maybe a handful of lives. Pilley probably ruined dozens. Being forced to lose your business and into bankruptcy, potentially losing your house and savings, can be just as bad as losing a relative. Both have potentially life long effects.

No sympathy from me. I suspect the senta ce took into account t the number of businesses that went to the wall as well as those who suffered e optionally.

Pilley is a heartless moneydriven sod who deserves everything that will come his way .during the coming years locked away to reflect on the lives he and his cronies have ruined.

BES website is still active. There’s a very interesting read about all this on the Blackpool fans forum AVFTT. A few on there actually know Pilley. It’s quoted on there that BES have been putting £54,000 a week into FTFC to fund them. The concencus opinion is that in the not too distant future the whole lot is going to come crashing down.

The authorities will no doubt go after him now for restitution using the proceeds of crime act etc’.
