The new laws will take a bit to feed into how the game is played so the bookings will eventually go down. The pettiness of one or too was uncalled for. The balls around the pitch helped the flow of the game. I am afraid we will have to get used to large amounts of extra time at the end of each half, (6 & 8 minutes). I understand that the typical time the ball is in play is only around 60-70 minutes of a 90 minute game, so that’s how much football we as supporters actually see. I understand a large lobby wanted the time keeping done differently, taking that responsibility out of the hands of match officials completely, like rugby and American football etc and reducing the time of the game to 70 minutes. This has not happened but how much football was played yesterday even with these new laws? It would be interesting to see. I agree with Derek and others that the new laws are not helpful to the game, I only hope the fines are re-looked at, as clubs like Morecambe FC cannot really afford the fines they will get. Loves card was unjustified another ball was on the pitch he saw, we saw it, but officials didn’t!!

I didn't see the game, so can't comment specifically on individuals, but from what I gather, there is a zero tolerance to dissent towards officials, and a lot of yellow cards were given for this reason? In that case

It is about time too.

I used to umpire hockey many years ago. Umpires took zero crap and as a result, they got almost zero crap. Similar to rugby. I remember one contentious decision where the opposition (Barrow) player realised that I'd seen what he'd done was illegal but other players didn't. As a result of my correct, but unusual decision, not only was the Barrow goal not allowed, but in the confusion, Morecambe broke, and scored legitimately. The Barrow player stood in front of me, pushing his own players back, because he knew that if they'd got in my face, they'd simply be booked. I stood there, hands behind my back while he stopped anyone from over stepping the mark.

The huge difference though, is in hockey, there is the option for a Green card, before the Yellow, and ultimately, Red. That extra warning may be useful in football as they rightly, and belatedly, clamp down?

I'm all for it, however it could be made much simpler. Just have an independent time keeper, just like in rugby.

Scoreboard clock being stopped when needed so we all know how long is left to play. In the second half 8 minutes were indicated but we ended up playing over 11.

I do hope that the number of yellow cards drops off, in what was not in anyway a dirty game 10 cards is a little crazy. Love's seemed very harsh.

I was not condoning the surrounding of officials stopping it I agree will help the game. I thought that some of the cards where not for abuse of officials, I will try and find out, publishing them will help fans understand. You pay for ninety minutes football and we as fans have never got anywhere near that so let’s see what difference the new laws make.

I think this may take a while to settle down and for players, management and fans to get used to it,Good move generally but I think they need to be a little bit lenient with the sentencing until it beds in.
It is also important that all refs play it the same way.

If I miss the 1731 train from Morecambe train station I'm pretty much snookered to get home on Saturday night.....I could always, of course, leave the ground early before the eventual final whistle, but what'll have been the point going to the game in the first place? 1000s across the country will be in the same situation.

A stupid rule.....unless kick-off is brought forward to 1430.

I don’t follow rugby. I know the game is 80 minutes, but as the clock stops and starts, Does anyone know how long the game actually lasts from kick off to final whistle?
