O/T Help needed to build a ramp to allow use of wheelchair

Postby redrobo » Wed Aug 23, 2023 11:32 am

My disabled mother in law wants to have a ramp built at her back door to allow her to use a wheel chair to gain access to her rear garden area.

Need the name(s) of a local builder / groundworker who could be contacted to provide a quote.

Thanks

Who has designed the ramp? If possible (if you haven't already) get an Occupational Therapist to carry out an assessment. Ideally, you want a 1:14 gradient, although 1:12 is generally acceptable. You may find a builder able to put a ramp in, but may not understand what's needed.

So how did that work out then?

Part M of the Building Regulations might also be relevant for you before you decide on a design if you haven’t already done so - there’s plenty of guidance out there online if you need it
