Ross would have to ask for permission to speak to Derek. No guarantee that would be given.

Then compensation would have to be agreed between the clubs.

You're right we do have to wait for an announcement but from the wording of the BBC article it sounds as if this is nearly a done deal. The board is not going to stand in the way if Derek wants to go.

Have you got a link to the BBC article ?

Anyone seen if Nixon has been mentioning this ? He blocked me on Twitter/X

My biggest concern is, if Derek goes (and who could blame him) does our reputation for developing young players go with him? If you were in charge at Burnley, come January, there's an argument to say, 'Mellon is doing well, happy and developing under Adams, so we'll leave him there until the end of the season' but if Derek goes, then the key reason for not moving him on, goes too. In fact, with Mellon playing for Scotland, there may even be an argument for sending Mellon on loan to Ross County?

Hit the nail on the ahead, this is my main concern too.
Without a resolution in the ownership issue who the hell would want the job if Derek left?

It would rule out managers already in a job like Coley. So I come back to Dave Artell but let's hope Derek stays.

The Board of Directors wished to retain the services of Derek Adams, but a contractual release clause was met to enable the move to progress.

We're certainly making some money out of our manager transfers!

Just to be even more cheerful, players under 24, who are out of contract, can go north of the border without compensation, so Derek can cherry pick our youngsters.

What really worries me is how many players will Derek take with him, particularly the loanees who I presume are free to transfer in January if their home clubs want them back, possibly to loan to Ross, in particular Mellon.

I don't blame Derek at all, it's his job/livelihood after all. I suspect it means that the club sale isn't happening and that he knows he'll have no money in January, and maybe even that he knows some of the successful loanees are being recalled in January.

Derek has worked wonders with both hands tied behind his back. It's a shame he's gone, but he's been in an impossible situation for the past 18 months and no one can blame him for putting his own career first, especially when he's not being supported by the club/owners.

Club or owners?

If he's gone under a release clause there may not be compensation

Dave Artell until the end of the season, then, depending upon how things are panning out with him, and elsewhere, either give him a longer contract or Coleman if his situation isn't sorted out at Accrington? Make any compensation that we may have received (assuming we did) available to the new manager for January?

Good luck to Derek. He's got two jobs. First off, get Ross County out of trouble. Second job, thump St Mirren every time they play each other!

I think it has been said before, that revenue from sales remains in the club's operating budget, so hopefully that's the case. It sounded like a release clause 'being met' despite the directors wanting to keep Derek, suggests that compensation was involved. But, who knows? We'll probably never get told anything

He can’t have just gone that quick , the club must have known for a while so hopefully they are already in talks with possible replacements ! .

No sugar coating it, this is an absolute disaster for our season. Hopefully the compensation we received (if any) can fund a half decent replacement. Otherwise the rest of the season is going to be rough.

At the end of the statement it says that they have started the process to appoint a replacement.

Bleak times ahead?

Mellon to join Ross County or Derby County in January.
Struggling Shrewsbury re-call Bloxham to strengthen themselves.
Mayor off in January (for decent money, hopefully)
McKiernan goes to Ross County at the end of the season, with us not receiving any compensation as, although under 24 years old, it is an 'international' transfer.

Bond group taken in by a 15yr old kid, who has FIFA on his Play Station, and convinces them he has £100 million to spend on buying Morecambe FC.

Anyone got any positive straws to clutch?

I think the best we can hope for this season is a patch up job. Drummond/Ged Bran or Artell?

The ownership issue is slowly killing the club.

Why? People were saying this years ago when Jim left, and even before he left, they were speculating Drummy would be the next manager. He's not been in the picture during our recent periods of change with managers, not even as an assistant in the dug out on match days. When Jim left, it was Barry and Kev who acted as caretakers.

Perhaps Drummy is happy with his job as managing the youngsters/academy? He may not want the stress of being a first team manager. May want the job security as he's local and has a young family living close - he'll know, as well as anyone, that being a manager is a fickle business - he may not want to risk the security of the job he has at the moment.

Purely as an interim measure, I don't think we are going to be overloaded with applications due to our very public ownership issues. No one can come in a create their side with no money to spend.
It was to a very different background when we replaced Jim.
