Our last three League Cup draws have been away from home.

Home to Newport: FA Cup
Away to Buxton: FA Cup
Away to Spurs: FA Cup
Home Stoke: League Cup
Away Rotherham: League Cup
Away to Sheffield Wednesday: FA Cup
Away MK Dons: League Cup
Away Rotherham: League Cup
Away to Lincoln City: FA Cup
Away to Wycombe: FA Cup
Away to Swansea: FA Cup

Likelihood of six FA Cup away games, in succession, is 1/64
Likelihood of seven FA & League cup draws away, in succession, is 1/128

The odds of being away in the next draw is 50:50
Like poor refereeing decisions, these things are supposed to balance out...

You've got to give it time Keith  We'll get a home draw in the next 20 draws!

Although its not one of the big money glamour ties at a Manchester United or Liverpool - I think this is still a good draw, and one that Morecambe fans should be looking forward to... I am. It will be a new ground for me (71st out of the current 92 EFL grounds) against a team that we have never played before in our history with an outside chance of another upset (we have already beaten 2 x League One clubs away from home this season.... we only won 2 away League One games all of last season!).

I would like to think that we will take a healthy following to South Wales - we have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.... a chance to appear in the fourth round for the first time in our history.

I think I'm right in saying that this is only the sixth time that the club has reached the the third round in our 103 year history - and three of those occasions have come in the last four seasons. Clearly some people have been a bit spoilt in recent times if they are disappointed with a trip to Swansea!

Shrimps Third Round FA Cup Appearances:

1961-62 Weymouth (H): Lost 1-0
2000-01 Ipswich Town (H): Lost 3-0
2002-03 Ipswich Town (A): Lost 4-0
2020-21 Chelski (A): Lost 4-0
2021-22 Tottenham Hotspur (A): Lost 3-1
2023-24 Swansea City (A): ???
Hello! Hello! We are the Morecambe boys!

We were already booked in near Walsall so a relative short journey, lol

About 3 hours then? It's alright for some!

Prize money is already adding up nicely for this.

Round 1 winners - £41,000
Round 2 winners - £67,000

Welsh clubs also have the potential to be selected for tv coverage on S4C. A quick google tells me this is worth £100,000 for the third round but not sure if that only applies to BBC and ITV games.

Making a guess at gate receipts, Swansea are averaging a 16,000 home attendance in the league. I'd estimate this might drop to 10,000-12,000 for the cup. My educated guess is they might charge around £20 for a ticket. Taking all that into account, our share of the gate receipts might be somewhere between £90,000 and £108,000

Add everything together and we could be looking at £300,000+ for this season's cup run.

...+£105,000 if we win

Like your optimism , but I would say 8 to 10000 and think tickets will be £12 to £15., their normal matchday tickets are £30

Might have been slightly optimistic but even 8k at £12 a ticket would land us £43,000. Not a terrible amount.

I forgot to include gate receipts from Lincoln and Wycombe also. Roughly £20,700 from Lincoln and £9000 from Wycombe.

Our guaranteed income from this years run is looking like roughly £180,000, with potential tv and prize money still to come if we're lucky.

No chance of our game being on S4C. Wrexham play Shrewsbury, so that will be on, what with it being two Welsh clubs! Unless it is chosen by the BBC, which it may be, as they suck up to Ryan Reynolds a bit more.

So how did that work out then?

Swansea City’s home FA Cup third-round tie against Morecambe has been chosen for overseas TV coverage and will take place on Saturday January 6 2024 at 5.30pm.

The Swans and the Shrimps meet for the first time in a competitive fixture, with the hosts hoping to advance to the fourth round for the first time since 2021 at the Swansea.com Stadium.
