and just like that, we have the inferiority complex again!

I am NOT assuming an inferiority complex. I am just pointing out the very obvious differences in the level of funding available to these teams. This is a team tipped for promotion and tonight shows why.

but they came to our place and we didn't give them a sniff. We have gone full circle, the Derek years where we had ambition, hopes and full houses will seem like a million years ago. Expectation is already being lowered.

Well 4-0 first half, 1-0 second half. Not quite the thrashing expected after the first half, but bad enough.
We've got to put it behind us and move on. Not an easy task in our situation.

The implication was there with your comments in brackets, we both know that was a dig.

The money thing is just like old times Keith, the who could do a better job saga which was smashed to pieces within 1 full season by a proper Manager. Not going to go into all that again but I really do fear that that is the level we are now at as a club(again). Ged might not win many games but at least he will clap at the end.

Questionable team selection from a manager new to the job and learning as he goes along. My question is are we a club suitable for a raw, inexperienced manager or do we need someone who knows the job, is experienced and has had some success in the post? I want to support Jed but he needs to show a clear plan backed by sound tactical nous to bring the best out of the squad. He needs to be able to retain the loan players we have and not have them returned to their parent clubs because their clubs feel they will not develop well in their time at our club. Drubbings like tonight might make some clubs feel the players they have loaned us will learn nothing from a poor side without a clear game plan.

I don't like saying it but I said earlier that appointing Ged was a money saving ploy.

He must be a dream for his employers, dodged every question about the ownership, just happy to keep the loan players and happy to be given the job.

I don't really know how to answer this other than to repeat that I have stated the obvious. We are in a precarious position owing to the ongoing ownership problems. Also the threat of further points deductions coming up. We all know that there is the possibility of players being recalled to their parent clubs. There is no easy way to sugar coat it.
I am in no way looking down, and I think that if the club can retain the existing squad and hopefully strengthen some areas in January, we will stay in league 2 this season.

I don’t think we can read anything into the second half only being 1-0, it could have been any score Notts wanted it to be if they felt like making the effort.

I do feel Ged may be slightly out of his depth but so would many with more experience. Isn’t he basically doing it all on his own at the moment? No assistant and I expect very few backroom staff?

Playoff dreams are over but I don’t think we need to worry about relegation just yet with how bad forest green and Sutton have been. We’ll have a much clearer idea when Jan ends and we know what squad we’re working with for the remainder.

Definite reality check for me. We just weren't allowed to play to our best by a very good team who look a safe bet for promotion at present. We were never allowed time to settle on the ball and it shook us. Play off's would have been good, but top half will still be good (in fact staying in the league will be fine by me). The critics of Ged need to realise that Derek was one of the top managers in this league and we were lucky to get him back when we did but he's gone and the club possibly could not have continued paying his wages anyway. Still too soon to judge Ged and until we can he needs our support. Having watched last night I agree that Stuart is missed for steadiness at the back.

I think Ged was saving Mellon for Harrogate where we stand a better chance of a positive result. By half time it wasn't worth risking someone who is still probably not match fit. He was probably also trying to rest Songo'o.

It's starting to look like we've travelled back in time a few years. Having an experienced football league manager showed what we can do, but sadly we have promoted from within probably to save money and now we're back to finishing 3rd from bottom and be happy!
Don't worry be happy!

I am sure several of the loan players will request their parent clubs recall them so they can be loaned out elsewhere. Not sure it helps their development to play in a struggling side with little or no game plan. It will be a case of watch this space and fingers crossed we keep most of them.

Well, that's three defeats on the road for me this season. Scored one and conceded 13. I keep picking the wrong games!

All this talk about Ged and Derek is academic. We lost our experienced manager due to the off field issues. Ged is no doubt a budget appointment but you have to back him as we have no alternative options. If he walked, we'd probably look to another internal candidate. Togetherness is the only thing that we have right now. Let's really support the players and manager and perhaps we can keep this decent group together and pick up results.

Totally agree Bill. It's going to be a long slog to the end of the season and we need to remain together.

Survival is now the name of the game.

I still have faith in Ged but his record to date doesn't look good....However the problems lie fairly at the feet of our owner who promised DA funds and then didn't deliver. Jason's apparent reluctance to accept an offer that falls short of his asking price is hard to understand other than to suggest he is a greedy bugger who on the face of it has an agenda that is hard to understand.

I feel sorry for our BoDs who have to deal with him and if they walked who could blame them... :?: :?: :?:

The coming transfer window will I fear see the departure of some if not all our loan players to be replaced by less talented journey men.

At the start of the season i posted that I was fearful of what would happen if Smith ever got between the sticks and so my worst fears have come back to haunt me. If there is one single player I want to see the back of it's Smith. I'm not sure on the rules about signing a replacement goalkeeper outside of the window are but he should have gone walkabouts out of our club long ago. There is a replacement who we already know of currently keeping in shape at Man Utd who for me would instill some confidence in our defense. We signed Smith when nobody else would have him following his off the field antics...so why the hell did we... :?: :?: :?:

As for the rest of this season that potentially had much to offer it'll be a case of survival once more and a mega rebuilding exercise once again come the close season break. Will that be under the management of Ged or not will be determined by results and the off the field saga. I'd like to think the he will still be in charge but his baptism of fire will have to see a vast improvement in the weeks ahead despite what may / will happen in the month of January.

Very grateful that we have 32 points (let's hope none are deducted !) and that Forest Green , Sutton and Colchester all look shocking.

Ged is a really good and respected coach but Derek was a manager. I suspect that when Derek left last month some available managers were sounded out (Artell for one) but took one look at the ownership issues and said "Thanks but No Thanks" !

It's a chicken and egg situation , when we were in the top 7 Jason would be thinking that if he hangs on until we reach EFL1 again then his investment is suddenly worth more.

For me Smith is getting some unfair flack. In the 6-0 at Wrexham there was only one goal which I think was when the game was over that could be called a howler. Last night I would only put the 2nd goal down as one that should have been avoided. Neither of Bradford's goals were down to goal-keeping errors and Stockport's equaliser was not his error either.

Maybe our BOD could try a "nuclear option" and give Jason a deadline by which if he hasn't agreed a sale of his shares that they would resign which would force his hand one way or another.

Please 'NO!!!!!'

If the board go, we can dig out our North West Counties guide books pretty soon. Whittingham doesn't give a monkeys about Morecambe FC, or what happens to us. My biggest fear is that he sacks the board and installs some cronies as a puppet regime, doing his bidding.

Whittingham would have to pay puppets to run the club and he doesn't like spending money. At present most members of the board are doing it out of love for the club. Let's hope that our excellent chief executive doesn't leave to pursue "other opportunities".

Example of a nightmare scenario...

Club sells Adam Mayor in January for £750,000.
Whittingham sacks the board and installs his puppet regime.
Three directors at £20k per year each. Not bad for one meeting each month.
His puppets allow him to take £550,000 out of the club and £120k in to 'running costs' account that the EFL want, leaving £60k for the stooges salaries.

If our current board go, either by their own volition or Bond Group's hand, we really are screwed.
